There are three revisions of the 722.xxx transmission vacuum modulator.

The technology of plastic/rubber advanced. Daimler looked at parts proliferation, and set engineers the task of reducing duplicate components where possible. The W126 vacuum modulator was more robust/advanced + the tooling was newer = more cost effective to drop the earlier unit. EPC makes note of the fact that the pin/cup MUST change to use the W126 part. More on that later. . |

Daimler reduces cost/increases profitability by continuously looking at parts proliferation, and keeps engineers busy eliminating duplicate components where possible. The latest vacuum modulator is totally re-designed-engineered. Using the most advanced minimalist - simple design possible. The technology of plastic/rubber have advanced substantially. Engineers tweaked the new design for backward compatibility, and superseded all other units. . |

What changed that matters to YOU when replacing this unit?
The factory original unit had a smaller diameter piston, and the cup bore was a perfect fit. Revision #1 had a LARGER diameter piston, and the ORIGINAL cup bore is to SMALL, if you try to force fit these, the plastic pin/cup will break. Revision #1 requires the (BLACK) NEW/superseded pin/cup, for proper fit - function. Revision #2 is a radical design change/complete kit, requires removal - discard ( as not needed) the old style pin/cup. ****************************************************************** Picture #1. Whunter, could you measure the nozzle of these? The part that gets inserted into the transmission. I swear one of these models could not be inserted into the transmission body.
