92 s 400 se question???

I know I asked this before but I really didn't understand the answer before.

Im interested in a s400 SE, And I know the se's are less wide or something like that in the wheel base? Im trying to figure out how noticeable this is? And like what the big difference is? Is it noticable? Basically the easiest, most simpliest answer would be appreciated.

Thanks.

SE models are short wheelbase.

The difference is all in rear seat leg-room.

Yea thats right, I remember hearing that. Can someone tell me if its visably noticable like by the eye? And does anyone know how much of a difference in feet or whatever it is in the leg room.

in the classic 108 chassis the difference between SE and SEL was 4"

I've always thought that if you study them side-by-side, the SE model usually looks more proportionate. The SEL rear doors can look a little odd if you focus on them because they are so big.

My $.02

You can tell by the VIN in US cars. GA32 is 300SE/S320 SWB, GA33 is S320 LWB, GA42 is 400SE, GA43 is 400SEL/S420. All SD/S350 are SWB, all 500 and 600 are LWB.

I think it is noticeable, our 1995 S320 is a SWB and if you look at the S500's and then the S320,you can see a difference. It doesnt kill the car though.

Look at the rear door, side by side between a short and long wheel base, thats the reason they build it,so,the rear passengers have more room.Short base, rear and front doors look pretty much same size, long wheel base, rear door is longer.

You may be surprised how differently the LWB and SWB models drive...if you have the option, test drive both.

Hey guys I test drove the 92 400se yesterday and it was pretty nice, a few minor problems ( chrome peeling on all 4 rims, interference on the cd changer, mino ding on door, no service records but it had a warranty and no spare tire) so going there I was told these issues wernt there or they didnt even mention it. So he wanted $9,600 for it ( dealership) so i offered him $9,000 he said no at first of course, I came a little later to see if he changed his mind, and the 2nd guy at first said yea he will take $9,000 but then he comes back and says oh yea we can take $9,000 and it will be a little higher with taxes.

But the whole point I kept telling him was that it was $9,000 OUT THE DOOR. So obviously we didnt come to an agreement and I left my number there. But I wont buy the car if the rims arent changed and the interference on the stereo is fixed.

So this car is out of my list of cars to buy. im going to check out a s 600 tomorrow. SUPPOSEDLY In better condition and a 1 owner car.
