1982 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon, Los Angeles, Low Miles - $1500

Here's a nice old wagon with the desirable turbo diesel engine. Car is not perfect, as you probably clued into by the price. Also, my apologies for the large pictures for those of you with modems- just want you to see the car.

First off, this car runs well. Has 201K on the working odometer. Engine has good power, little blowby and doesn't smoke like a lot of these guys do. Transmission shifts smoothly and quickly with no slipping. Stops well with no squealing or grinding. Can cruise at 70 on the freeway no problem, and good pep in the city. Starts easily when cold.

Interior is in fair-good shape. Driver's seat sags and has a few tears. Carpets have stains, though I have not tried to clean it. Dash is clean and all other seats and headliner good. Sunroof is manual and works well. Heat blows strong, A/C blows, but not cold. AM/FM cassette player works, but the antenna is missing. Only driver's side windows work right now. All dash dials work, with the exception of the tachometer. Dash light works, but as you know, is dim. Exterior is OK, some old rust repair.

So, why so cheap? It will need work:
-Rear taillights cracked, turn signal bulbs out.
-Idles high in park and neutral (throttle adjustment?)
-Has oil leak from head cylinder cover gasket (will be replaced when you have the valves adjusted)
-General maintenance that has been ignored by previous owner should be done(belts, mounts, filters, valve adjustment, etc)
-Possibly more, as I am not an expert on these cars- this is what I see from tinkering on cars for years.

Here's a chance to get a diesel wagon for not a lot, and work on it as you go along. I've been driving it, and it seems to be a very reliable car. If you work on these cars (I understand thats most here on this forum), it's a great deal. If you bring it to a shop for your repairs, its still a good deal. You could part it out for what I'm asking. I am moving and will not need a car in metro NYC. First person with 1500$ drives away with the car and a clear, non-salvage California title and tags good until October. Please feel free to email me any questions to uriahtheriault@yahoo.com, and thanks-

Yes, I figure I'd take best offer from forum members here, too, as I don't know anything about diesels. Years of wrenching around on old BMW motorcycles doesn't give me rights to postulate on this car, and did a look at the forums and a lot of you would have the know how to make this an all around good driver. That said, I have been driving it back and forth to work and to the airport a few times (30-40min freeway), and have had no issues.

Thank you all for the emails- the car is sold pending pickup. I will assuredly post here again if it falls through, but deposit has been received.

Thanks!
