For Sale: 1980 240D The Squash $3800

It pains me to sell this car, but I simply can't drive them all and this one just sits out in the driveway most of the time under it's car cover.
As stated above, the Squash is a 1980 240D with 230K miles. It is by far the nicest W123 I've ever owned, from looks to functionality. He has a blemish or two, but who doesn't?
Runs perfectly, gets an honest 25 to 29 mpg. Just like all 240D's I've owned, he likes a sip of oil every other tank full of gas or so, but part of that is I'm OCD about the oil being in the middle of the stick at all times!
Front end was rebuilt by a previous owner, and if you've never driven one of these with a rebuilt front end you have really been missing something. Just a great ride out of this car!!!
Car is Manilla Beige [wizz yellow] with the very elusive Sienna interior.

The exterior is a nice repaint. Not a perfect multi-thousand dollar repaint, but not an Earl Scheib dipping either. A very presentable repaint. I can tell the moulding was removed for the repaint as I had to reinstall some of the trim correctly. Front and rear windshield seals were replaced also. {more on that later}
Something you will seldom find but greatly appreciate, all the door rubber sealing trim was replaced, and man does it make a difference in road noise and just the general feel when you shut one of the doors. Great value in that job. Promise!
I feel like I'm starting to ramble, so I'll just list some things, add some pics and answer any questions. Also, I pretty much have pics of everything I've done to the car and will burn a CD for the new owner or x-fer to a jump drive.
Probably the best way, and most honest I guess, to get a feel for what I've done is read over the thread I started on him from the day me and Dan went and picked him up in Austin Texas.

Got a 1980 240D today.....

In reading over that thread it amazing all the little things you do to these cars and then forget about them. I also have a notepad in the garage with most of the stuff notated. I can't remember anything so I must notate!

Quick goods and bads:
Goods:
Paint
interior
driveability
Cold R12 AC

umffff
suspension
CV axles
lack of overall rust!!
Windows professionally tinted

Bads:
front windshield is just awful and needs to be replaced. Crack right in front of your face!
Front drivers seat has a split seam, not a tear in material. [will add pic of that]

Tires probably need replacing. Have been driving on them for a couple years but if I was going to use this daily I would buy him some new shoes!
Car has new rear window seal because old one leaked. It rusted through the drivers side well in the trunk. I will post a specific pic of this as it is the cars major blemish. It hasn't changed condition at all in the 2 years I've had it, but at some point it needs to be repaired and the outside of the rear 1/4 panel sanded prepped and painted. It hasn't bothered me but it should be pointed out for sure.
At some point somebody ran into something or something backed into the front end. You can see a repair area around the drivers headlight location. {only with hood up of course}

Missing passenger side kick panel. Have driver's side, and found door pockets for both sides a while back.
Again, nit picking but stating all I can think of.
It's late, I'm tired, but I will look over this again tomorrow, add some more info and pics and gladly answer any questions.
This is a great little 240D. Runs and drives great, every single thing works and even with the tires I have on it I would get in him tomorrow and drive it to Alaska to say hello to Palin!
The new owner can just get in and drive.........
Price is firm. If he is still out in the driveway next summer then I might have to rethink things. If no takers from here after a bit then I will move him over to ebay, but I would sure like to see him stay "in the family", and am confident enough in my information to you to be comfortable with that.
Everybody needs a vegetable-colored car. Some day I hope to own a zucchini ......

I forgot to mention that he has a trailer hitch with lights hook up, but then again, what's the point! I've had several hundred pounds in the trunk, but I've never pulled anything with it. [don't have a trailer that small}
Tranny fluid [manual] was replaced with Royal Purple. Shifts very smooth.

Oh, power windows and manual sunroof. Best possible combination!
It has an aftermarket stereo with cd player. Not fancy and not that new either. If new owner would rather have a Becker 612 then I have a spare I will install. Power antenna works well.
And, if anybody local wants to come drive him then that would be fine. I'll even let you drive China so you can tell the difference. It will speak for itself.....
random pics:

evap flush

every single AC junction/joint had o-ring replaced and Nylog utilized. Freeze12 is good but R12 is better!

He has also been to GTG's

See him down there in his usual position...

Bump for the wagonmaster...

Looks gorgeous; never seen pictures of Squash before.

I bet 99% of people wouldn't notice if you used a black kick panel. Heck, I could probably paint one to match perfectly.

Great looking car! I've been trying to sell my 240D for months, in almost as good condition, and it's not been going so well, I hope you have more luck.

It would be great if members' cars would just be sold to another member, but then the seller might see it and regret that he sold it...

Good luck on the sale Jimmy, I hope it goes to a good home either way. Curious though if I may ask, why is it not being used as much?

Because it has really nice paint and interior, I keep it under a car cover. When it is time to walk out and go somewhere it is just easier to get into one of the other cars without a cover and just drive off. If I take the Squash I have to roll up the cover, put it in the trunk, get home, get it out of the trunk and cover it again.
So it is just a "quick and dirty" kind of thing.
Some weekends I'll pull the cover off and I end up driving it every where I go for that weekend and just cover it back up Sunday evening, but usually it just sits out there under its cover.
China is such a mutt that she doesn't require [deserve] a cover, plus I don't really have to worry where I park her when I'm out. I always find a nice wide open spot for the Squash....
During the week I always have tools and parts with me, so I use a wagon or my pickup.
The wife gets the side of the garage that a car can fit in, so a cover is the next best way for me to keep a nice car nice.....

Damm man. One of my dream cars. How many times have I said that on this forum Anyway. I would hope you could keep it, or pass it on to another deserving forum member. Anyway. Good luck with it either way.

Was this pic taken this year? Oh, wait, that cannot be Squash sitting behind Coda because you drove the white wagon to the Texas GTG.

JackG === What are you driving down? Bring a car down that I want to buy, then I'll take you to Jimmy's in Coda and then you could drive it back home.

Or better yet....just "transport" it back home. It may not be as expensive as you think. I have a quote of $360 to move a car from Memphis to Louisville,KY.

Wish I had the money,

If only it were closer

My wife would kill me,

I just bought one that wasn't as nice; I wish you would have posted earlier,

I need to sell mine first,

Can you work out a payment plan?

Will you take $50 for it?

Can you cash this check from a former Nigeran official, keep the $3,800 and send the remaining to us?
