Yeah, it is. On both counts.

The 617 will fit, just takes some creative placement of the turbo.
I thought it was that the oil filter interfered with the steering gear on the W114/115. I seriously would like an M110, but I would feel like crap gutting your running car just to get one. And I really don't need another car ( I am up to...12!)

What kind of carb would be a suitable replacement for this car to maybe make it (the carb, not the car) more dependable?

I think you have to use the oil filter from the early diesel 5cyl w115, the non-turbo. I know I read the turbo didn't fit right but was do-able. Would be a shame to gut this one, I agree, I'd also start having evil thoughts about an alternate power plant for it... I have too many cars/projects too.

Depends on who you ask, I'd like to try a 390cfm Holley myself, the Jam Eng replacement carb model they use is not well thought of by anyone other than desperate Solex owners, and the webber is just tiny and very seldom reported to really work correctly either, though you can actually get parts for it. And it costs twice what it ought to. The Holley ain't cheap either. With enough tuning and patience a quadrajet with a manual choke conversion I think would work as well. Other's have gone different routes, from junkyard generic 2 barrel's on up, they all work to one degree or another. I haven't committed to anything because of the "maybe" factor and not wanting to give up what little power the US spec M110 has by going smaller than the Solex.

That'd be asking a lot, and at 15mpg (if you are lucky) for that many miles I think you could have it transported for about as much. My Father lives in Perry or thereabouts btw. I miss OK.

have you tryed a check valve at tank,or a presure valve close to org. pump that may help stop the pump from have to much presure and let the flote stop the fuel. I may be in the area in 2 week's will email, I will bring presure valve. Is that it or are the point bad. If I buy it I want to drive it home (8 Hr). email, If sold fine.

It's not that sort of carb issue, the float. It's plumbed with an aftermarket electric pump right now as an experiment at any rate. The points are new and dwell is set, plugs cap and rotor and likely wires as well, did all that when I first started to get it running right. It might go 8 hours or the 37 year old radiator might burst an hour into the trip. I'd not sweat the motor/trans really, it's all the little things that getcha.

Changed the oil and puttered around a bit this past weekend, fired up without much grief.
Still a lovely old car, and I'd still like an 80's Euro something that didn't get 15mpg.

Take a road trip and bring that thang to Alabama... I'll find you a buyer. Who knows, it might be me!

Did you settle on a price, or decide to keep the old gal.

I'm looking for a 240D 4sp, but not having much luck. Think I'd like and old, slow diesel to putter around in

Awesome car!

At that price, or basically the cost of freight, this can be bought!

Yeah the price varies depending on if there's something else around I'd go buy at the time pretty much. It's a $1500 car, that I traded a Volvo I had $4500 in for, if that says anything. I'm much more inclined to make a good deal to the right person, but frankly if you can't blow $1500 on it, you can't afford the work it needs and it'll break your heart.
