1980 280SE euro

Here is a link from the previous owner as this car may be familiar to some of you

1980 W116 280SE Euro spec in New Jersey

I bought it from the guy who tried to flip it on Ebay and have really enjoyed it the last few years. I honestly have not done much to the car other than enjoy it. I did have a new windshield put in when I had the seal replaced ($400) and had the valves adjusted.

I have a complete engine and trans from a US spec 280 but I couldnt tell you the condition as i wasn't running when I pulled it.

I would like to get $3000 for everything including lots of new parts like door seals, valve cover seals ect.

I am not the most articulate person so please ask a lot of questions. There is rust here and there and the car will need a repaint. It looks great shined up from 20 feet away.

Pm or call

(three one five) 317-5861

Mike

I am kinda shopping around for a car around in the 1200 range so that counts you out. I was looking for a V8 MB but would rather have yours over a V8. I am guessing that engine is silky smooth and get's good MPG's. The only V8 MB I have ever driven was my brothers '98 420sel..

Goodluck

Good luck in the search. Thanks for the compliment. I really do love this car, but I love Mercedes in general and I would like to pass it on.

Not even the hecklers are interested? I would think it would be good for a "You will never get that kind of money" or "you need better pics" bump.

Totally valid argument; definitely need more pics...

I go to Colgate up in your area, so I would be able to check it out later this summer...

In the interior picture, what is that black thing attached to the dash under the center vents?

Yes, you are starting high even if it were a diesel, which it isn't.
Starting high scares off any buyers that might be serious.
I only bring this up because you mentioned it above. I do hope you find a good buyer for that car.
That interior is AWESOME. Ahhhhh, greenage..........

It is an mp3 player holder with a suction cup to hold it in place. It came with the car and since it as a Becker with an aux input, it comes in quite handy.

Why do you say because it isn't a diesel? I think a few years ago diesels were fetching great prices due to veggie conversions but not so much anymore.

Well, I certainly don't wish to scare anyone off. I am open to any offers. I am certainly not trying to make a profit and I won't even at this price.

i think he means that nice w116 diesels are getting real hard to find, and if it was a diesel you might be in the low ballpark. i myself have regretted selli9ng my 1980 300sd that was same exterior color as your car (and i've been thinking about your car too) and i 've been "passively" looking ever since

So the unthinkable is unfolding before me...A guy stopped to look at my car and may want to buy it, however I don't think he has good intentions. I can't stand to think of my car being driven by anyone less than an enthusiast.

This is no longer a for sale post but an admission of prejudice against all that would defile my precious grey market German steel conservative sedan.

Am I ridiculous?
