1983 Mercedes 300TD (Diesel Wagen/Wagon) Question

1983 MERCEDES BENZ 300TD (WAGON) - 199,036 Miles
READY TO CONVERT TO BURN VEGETABLE OIL OR
JUST A GREAT CAR FOR YOUR USE!
Please keep in mind that this car is 28 years old. I'm going to do my very best to describe the entire car. I want to stress that if you have ANY questions to please ask them! All the extra parts that you see in the photo will be explained (what they are and what they do) and they ALL come with the car. Including the Haynes manual and ALL the CDs (Parts CDs and the Service CDs!).
First things first, the engine runs VERY strong and starts immediately. I've changed the vacuum pump, glow plugs, and a whole host of other things. The transmission is also strong but I think it should serviced as there is a slight slip between 2nd and 3rd gear. It is a minor slip, but I want to be very honest and make sure you know exactly what you're looking at! The brakes need to be replaced. The parts are VERY common and not expensive in the least. For example, the front pads are $13.99. This car is one of the most common cars still in use around the world, making it very very easy (and affordable to get parts!). As I'm certain you can see from the pictures, yes, the car has rust. And in some areas, a lot of it. I'm not going to tell you that it is "rust free" or any of the lies that I read in other people's car advertisements. The car has rust.
The interior of the car is complete and the seats are in terrific shape with no tears! The All the headrests are included. AND The third row flip-down seat is fully functional and included!! The power windows all work. What does not work: power locks, power antenna, ac.
The sunroof slides fine.
The rear hatch needs to have new struts installed. THE NEW STRUTS ARE INCLUDED!
The power steering hoses need to be changed. NEW ONES INCLUDED!
The rear suspension cells need to be changed. NEW ONES INCLUDED!
Valve adjustment tools included... and much much more!
The car needs a battery. I have one that we can test-run it on, but you'll want to bring a proper sized one (mine is too tall to close the hood).
Hopefully, by looking at the pictures you'll be able to get a good idea of the value in this car! If you like to work on cars, you've found an AWESOME deal. If you intend to convert it to burn vegetable oil, you've found a VERY AWESOME deal!

Some of the parts that come with the car. A few containers of Fuel additive aren't shown as well as
two brand new oil lines.

This is a great shot of the car and really shows the potential. Shots like this make me really wish I could
keep the car!

Another great shot!

Nice shot. You can see some of the rust just in front of the rear tail light.

Note the rust just in front of the rear tail light.

Here you can see where much of the rust is located. First you have the rust on the deck lid (hatch) as well as
at the base of the wheel well (below the fuel door).

The car is actually very straight. But... As I've made clear before. There is rust.

Nice shot.

199036 Miles

Glass is all in good shape and all four power windows work.

Seats and armrest in very good condition for the age of the car with no rips!

More interior and exterior shots.

Another interior shot.

Passenger front seat.

More inside shots...

All three rear headrests!!

Funny part about this car... with the rust... there is rust on panels, but none on the jack points.
That's a good thing!

Tires have thread like new!

Car is in NJ.
I'm open to a fair offer
The SLS is that it needs to have the cells replaced. I am including 2 brand new cells - you just have to install them. The car sit level and the SLS woks perfectly when the car is running. It sags after you turn the car off.

Thanks!

A trans service will not likely solve the slipping problem. I'm also thinking there might be more to do with that SLS.

Considering the laundry list I think top dollar would be somewhere around $1000.

considering the rust, trans issue and SLS I would say that $1000 would be very strong money. I'd peg it around $600, a candidate for CWC

Ok! I've got a standing offer of $2000 even on the car. I'm guessing I should take it based on what you guys are telling me. Thanks for all the help!
