I have a 1958 Ponton 220S for sale. I purchased it since I believed it was restorable and I still believe it is restorable. I don't have the space for it and my interest have drifted in a different direction.

Here is the link to the slideshow on all the pics I have of the Ponton.

Here is the link for this un-named Ponton.

Included with the Ponton is the 1967 250SE engine and transmission that I had planned on dropping in it. The engine was pulled from a running 90K+ mile rustbucket previously owned by a 85 year old woman. Yes, I will split them up if I sell the Ponton first.

Delivery is possible. I have 2 trips planned this summer. One to Allentown, PA. The second trip to the Detroit, MI area. In addition, anywhere within 4 hours of Memphis, TN is doable.

I would like to recapture the investment I've made into these pieces of MB history. I also have a complete Kuhlemeister AC unit. In addition, I have some 14 inch steel hubcap friendly wheels to throw into the mix.

Asking $1300 for all and you come get it. Make an offer. I don't want to have to scrap this stuff.

This is from the ponton thread that I posted last year:
I have the hood --- it rode home safely in the back of my truck. And ....believe it or not, I stopped down the street after I got a smoothie at M's and put air in the tires! The tires have inner tubes in them; one tire got a bubble on the sidewall and blew out; the others held air. I wish I'd pumped up the tires before trying to load the car --- next time I will know.

All the leaves blew out of the hood area on the way home and I got the car covered with a brand new tarp to protect the headliner and interior recovered seats from the bad door seals.

The only "bad rust" on the car is at the trunk lid edge and the matching surface on the car. Here are some updated pics.

daw_two 03-10-2011 10:32 PM

daw_two 06-28-2011 07:47 PM

Package Deal

I also have a car hauling trailer with title, breakaway brake, lights, new paint, and decent tires that you could purchase to haul the ponton home.

I also have a w110 200D engine and standard transmission (4 speed, right?), a w110 hood, and a w110 truck lid.

daw_two 08-06-2011 03:06 PM

Bump.

Asking $900 for just the car.
Asking $1600 for just the trailer

I'm driving to Allentown, PA and can deliver both.

Aquaticedge 08-06-2011 04:18 PM

oohhhh.... Your making this hard on me now.....Damn.

JiveTurkey 08-06-2011 05:44 PM

I'm fairly interested

daw_two 08-09-2011 10:41 AM

Price Dropped

Asking $800 for the ponton. Comes with a clean TN title.

I have a 200D engine and transmission (fintail), w110 hood and grill, w110 trunk lid; can make a nice package deal if you buy the ponton.

daw_two 08-11-2011 11:12 AM

Price Dropped again.....

Asking $700 for the Ponton; delivery is possible.

Choover 08-15-2011 04:54 PM

I am going to regret asking, but do you still have this car?

I do. PM sent.

daw_two 08-18-2011 10:21 AM

Trailer sold and will be delivering to Allentown

I sold the red trailer in this pic:

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/DSCF9069.jpg

and will be dragging it toward Allentown, PA. Since I'm pulling the trailer, I could easily have the 1958 Ponton loaded on it for someone.

In addition, it will make it super easy for me to haul the 200D engine and transmission that I have just laying around.

daw_two 08-19-2011 06:41 PM

*frown*

The front windshield appears to have received a rock; the glass still intact to protect the inside from the elements.

daw_two 10-05-2011 09:41 AM

Bump

The 1958 Ponton needs a home.

Aquaticedge 10-05-2011 09:45 AM

I have seen this car in person! It's in Stunningly Awesome Shape! the interior is amazing, Doesn't even smell like it's sat for awhile, Whoever gets this car will wind up with something special!

daw_two 10-20-2011 11:06 AM

Price Reduced

Asking $600 --- air is still holding in 3 tires.

I have a 20 foot trailer, so delivery is possible. Several possible trips are upcoming. My next one is the first weekend of November to the Louisville, KY area.

ImBroke 10-21-2011 10:17 PM

David, I'm looking to get the 59 220S from Strelnik. Looking for an engine, but don't want to buy a whole car to get one. I would, if needed. Let me know if we can work something out.

Give me a call --- PM sent with number.

daw_two 10-22-2011 06:08 PM

Identification number

Identification 220S 180010Z

Manufactured in 1958

226H

daw_two 11-01-2011 08:19 AM

Oh NO!!!! Not a Mercedes-Benz????

I wonder if the title paperwork is going to get screwed up by this. This 1958 Ponton is NOT a Mercedes-Benz. See for yourself.

So, would the Identification number be:
220S/180010Z
or is the thing before the Z, the letter O ???

daw_two 11-01-2011 10:30 AM

Chassis Number

I guess I will be calling Nashville and asking the TN DMV which number they want me to use. Here's a few other pics of the ID plate and "finish" plate.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/DSCF9436.jpg

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/DSCF9437.jpg

Mr.Kenny 11-04-2011 11:09 AM

I was told by the DMV that the letter 'O' is never used in a vin or ID. It is always considered number Zero.

daw_two 11-17-2011 08:58 AM

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...DSCF9436-1.jpg

Chassis No. 8515387 is used for registration purposes. The ID # is NOT unique.

Tennessee Title

I have received the State of Tennessee Certificat of Title for the 1958 Ponton. I have removed my address from the scanned image. I'm ready to transfer this vehicle to the purchaser.

Walrus 12-17-2011 12:35 AM

During another life, I'd be all over this.

Wish it were such that...

Here is an interesting question: Why are the pictured name plates in English?

whunter 02-03-2012 01:43 PM

Hmm

Great talking with you today.

If I might suggest a new set of pictures after.

* A light wash with soap and scrub.
* Clean the glass.
* Vacuum and lightly clean the interior and trunk.

It would make the car look better.

I realize you are incredibly honest.
However a couple of hours cleaning will do more to show buyers the reality.

The pet peeve of many collectors looking at prospective buys = trying to look at pictures of dirty barn cars to see what is hiding under years of grime.

Note: If it has been cleaned, the current pictures don't show it.

Hogweed 02-04-2012 10:21 AM

sooooo, how much or the ponton and the 20' trailer????

I would have to agree with whatever clean up you could do; very tempted.

Okay folks. I will wash the dirt off and vacuum the floor boards. More pics coming soon.

Hogweed -- the 20 foot trailer is 10K rated with electric brakes, ramps, 2 spares, and great condition decking. There are cheaper trailers on Memphis Craigslist.

$600 for the ponton.
$2900 for the 20' trailer (<- the link is the ad on Craigslist) and yes, it is over 7' between the wheel wells. Great for hauling a big pickup truck, tractor, or other equipment.

daw_two 02-09-2012 09:31 AM

Better Option

$600 for the Ponton
$1250 for this trailer --- I'm going to go look at it on Saturday if one of you guys don't beat me to the punch.

Hogweed --- are you taking notes?

Vintage 02-14-2012 11:15 PM

Still got the Ponton?

I'm probably up for it if you still have it. Please advise.

Thanks.
Eric

Email sent.

daw_two 04-21-2012 05:36 PM

Shop Moving --- has to go or else be crushed

I'd say I have about 45-60 days. Comes with a clean TN title.

daw_two 05-11-2012 05:07 PM

clock is ticking

Bump for this project ponton. One day, guys, I'm going to put it on eBay and if it doesn't get to scrap value, it's gone.

I'm re-reading this thread and had forgotten about your trip to the shop to retrieve that OM617 engine and transmission.

daw_two 10-16-2012 09:46 AM

clean-up

Well.....The last massive cleanup of the shop area allowed the ponton to receive a "stay of execution".

I'm bumping this thread up in the hopes that once my divorce is final I can sell it.

Hogweed 10-16-2012 09:54 PM

i cannot believe this hasn't sold yet:confused:

I had it tentatively sold a few months ago, but I couldn't get anyone to commit on a trailer.;)

Things will work out, you know.
I'm hopeful.
There are more trailers coming on the market.

So, everyone reading this.....if you live in the Maryland, VA, PA, NorthEast TN, Delaware, etc area and want a rust free car hauling trailer for about $2,000 (give or take), please let me know. I will use it to haul this car up to that area and then deliver the trailer to you.

Thanks.

BodhiBenz1987 10-17-2012 07:14 PM

Is the price of the Ponton still $600? My dad and I might be interested in the trailer ... but have to talk it over with him first.

Yes. I have (had 2) perspective buyers; however transportation costs have been the limiting factor.

daw_two 01-14-2013 04:09 PM

Another bump and update

Okay, here's the latest. My divorce is final, so I can sell it again.

and

The shop is finally going to move; owner is building a shop and getting out of his current lease. He said everything has to be moved within 90 days.

so

89 days are left

NC-Diesel 01-14-2013 09:03 PM

I'm going to get hit by my wife for asking this and I plan to duck....
But how much? $600. I have always wanted one of these or a fintail and I have a tax return coming up. Is pretty much everything there to get it on the road and driveable?

daw_two 01-14-2013 10:26 PM

No engine; however, I do have an old 4 speed manual transmission that can work. In addition, I have 2 under the dash AC units and one set of NOS shocks.

Comes with a clean TN title.
I will shoot you a PM with my number. We can discuss deliver if you know someone that needs to buy a car hauling trailer.

daw_two 03-26-2013 04:53 PM

almost done

Trade Pending. :)

whunter 03-26-2013 11:59 PM

newtodiesel 03-27-2013 12:56 AM

Cant wait for the thread rebuild on this one.....if you buy it you have to document with tons of picts....:D
Will be a nice one!
Awesom daw_2!!! Glad it got a home

daw_two 03-28-2013 01:35 PM

Well.....I'm still waiting to hear back, but I think it's going to get partially restored with a different engine & transmission ---- it will look like a ponton, but won't be one under the hood.

daw_two 05-29-2013 04:28 PM

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day of the shop ---- I still have this. It would be terrible to send it across the scales or have someone steal it from the closed shop lot.

Does anyone have any interest? I have a car hauler trailer and could move it for the appropriate compensation.

EDIT: Okay, it looks like the previous pending deal is going thru...........yeah.

JimmyL 05-29-2013 09:27 PM

Somebody let daw give you this car and pay him to deliver it!!! It's been a long time......
