WTB: 124 or 126 sedan

I am in the market for a well-sorted 124 or 126 sedan for use as a daily driver. I am most interested in the later versions of each ('89-'91 126 or '90-'95 124). I'd avoid the 560SEL and 350SDL, but open to diesels or gassers otherwise. Lower mileage preferred, but maintenance more important. On 124's, let me know if the wiring harness is done (if applicable), and the head gasket. Working A/C is important. Basically a car with no urgent issues that you'd feel comfortable driving cross-country tomorrow. Location is a factor, but will travel long distance for the right car. I'm in the St. Louis, MO area. Let me know if you have, or know of, such a vehicle, along with price and location. Thanks!

tough call....do you like the big sedan ride...or the more nimble ride.

i would go for a 94-95 e320 with the 104 engine...

i have both engines and prefer the 104

I 've been meaning to update this thread...

I ended up getting a '94 E320 with 85k for $4750 from a guy in the Northern VA/DC area, white over gray with no ASR. I spotted the ad on Benzworld, which included a link to a Craigslist ad. The way the ad was written, I could tell the owner was an enthusiast who had taken care of the car. The car had a stamped maintenance book from the first owner up until about 50k. Second owner bought it through the Starmark warranty program and drove it until about 70k. The first two owners were in Florida. My seller bought it in Richmond, VA at that point, in August 2008. He said his mechanic rejected two other 124's before approving this one. He provided his records, showing the throttle actuator and front flex disc had been replaced, and various other items. The wiring harness was done by a previous owner. He put a new set of Michelin's on and had the oil pressure sender unit replaced the day before I was to go look at it. I flew out to look at the car, cash (and return ticket) in hand. On inspection, everything checked out OK, so I bought it and set out for home. Attached is a picture I took on the way back, at a rest stop off the PA Turnpike, and an interior shot.

All electricals work: HVAC, cruise, odometer, windows, locks, clock, seats (except for pass. headrest), and sunroof. He had installed a new Blaupunkt head unit, which fits the car well. It had an iPod input (which didn't work with my iPhone, so I installed a different cord). The original Becker was also included.

I am sure it will need a head gasket at some point, but for now all is good and there are no leaks. Interior and exterior are both in excellent shape.

I arrived back in St. Louis the next day. The E320 had made the 800-mile drive across on I-70 without a hitch. I loved the solid, smooth ride on the highway. You can really tell it was designed with Autobahn cruising in mind. Every day now, I look forward to driving it. I also look forward to using this forum to learn more and solve issues, as I plan to do as much of my own work as I can. There is just something special about a W124 and I plan to keep this one a long time.
