I didn't notice any mention about the rear boots, were they ever done?

Did the AC work before the noisy clutch?

Can you take a pic or two showing the rust?

I dont know about the age of the boots. I do know they don't look "NEW".

I did cut the original clamps (mercedes style ) off and checked, found lots of fluid in there and so i topped them off and used Zip ties to hold them on and seal them up... so there is your cryptic answer.

I believe that yes the AC was working, i know that my old roommate said he had it serviced and charged and only took off the belt due to the noise from the clutch.

I can get a picture of the rust that will be photographed and if you want my opinion,
1. there is a high likelihood that replacing the entire wheel wells would be a good idea.
2. I would also plan on removing both the windshield and rear glass, there is evidence of some rust repair in the area along the rear window and the flat trunk area going toward the hinges.

All that said, only the front window is seriously in need of a swap due to the big crack (I have a good 300sd windshield and will provide it to the buyer if desired) The rest would only be for LONG term reliability and the luxury of keeping the water completely out....

I completely rebuilt the A/C system. New dryer; new expansion valve; flushed all lines, condenser and evaporator; rebuilt compressor. After a long trip I stopped for fuel and found it was making a lot of noise. Still cooling well so I diagnosed it as clutch noise rather than a compressor failure. Took off belt and never touched it after that.

Sad to offer it for sale, hopefully I can sell my VW fox wagon and keep this. I have put a lot into it so far and took it to key west sooooooo.
