1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Wagon - $1500 Astoria, Oregon (near Portland/Longview, WA)
Greetings, I am selling my 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Turbo Wagon. This has been a highly reliable daily driver that has never left me stranded. It was my goal to turn this car into a show-ready vehicle, as these types of cars seem to fetch between $6000 to $17,000 for the really nice ones. This chassis is a noted favorite among enthusiasts, and most maintenance can be done with common hand tools. There have been some changes in my family, and we currently only need one vehicle right now. There are many things I’d like to do to make this vehicle better but I just don’t have the financial freedom or even the time anymore to continue on. You will be getting a great deal on the price, as it doesn’t even come close to the amount of money I’ve already put into it. It’s a fun diesel to drive with the functionality of a small truck in back. I’ve been able to transport fruit trees, plywood, a full load of Costco groceries in the back with ease.
**The driver’s side rear trailing arm needs to be replaced. The car can be driven away, but it has a corroded hole in the thinnest part of the metal so it really should be replaced as soon as possible. I am including a good used trailing arm with the vehicle. I prefer to sell this car to someone who is mechanically inclined and an enthusiast for old cars. -good things 118k miles interior is in great shape New battery, replaced positive lug and battery tray installed new glow plugs and reamed carbon out of glow plug chambers Performed valve adjust and replaced valve gasket cover. Engine runs strong Cleaned fuel injectors, replaced primary and secondary fuel filter Performed oil change and replaced oil filter Changed transmission fluid and replaced filter Changed fluid in rear differential Changed engine air filter Replaced upper and lower radiator hoses, engine firewall coolant hoses, replaced coolant fluid Changed old lightbulbs in dash to LEDs Climate Control system works great (gets really warm on those cold days) I opened up the climate control unit and resoldered all the old electrical joints. Engine has strong compression and starts great even in cold weather. Minimal rust for a 30-year-old car. Manual sunroof opens and closes with ease Electronics inside the car work great (electric windows, radio, lights, etc) The bad: Starter solenoid is sticky sometimes, especially if the car has not been driven for a few days. I am including a brand new replacement solenoid with the car. the aforementioned trailing arm. I also have a Haynes manual for the vehicle, as well as the Mercedes-Benz factory service manual on a DVD that includes 4 other chassises other then the W123.
