1999 E300 Turbodiesel, Low Miles

1999 E300 Turbodiesel

Clean Maryland Title
80,601 miles

No modifications, except aftermarket Pioneer radio(I still have the original oem headunit)
A/C needs a recharge
All Electronics Work
Low Oil Warning light comes on even though dipstick shows full oil. (Oil level sensory needs replacing)
No leaks
Black Leather Interior with Heated seats, an option rarely seen on W210's. (Interior in Great Shape)
Both original keys, valet key, owner’s manuals, all tools/spare

All maintenance/repairs below were done at the dealer with OEM parts from the dealer in September 2015.
6 glow plugs
all injector leak lines
brake light switch
Rear shocks
Serpentine belt
"BService"
Engine oil & filter
Engine air filter
A/C cabin filter
Fuel filter
Wiper blade
Brake fluid flush
Rear differential oil change
Alignment
Battery charge tested and passed.

Never been wrecked, original paint, as seen with the scrapes on the bumpers, few door dings, few rock chips
The reason for selling, last winter the car developed an engine knock. I stopped driving it and tried the simple remedies like servicing the valve tappets and changing the oil but the knock isn’t going away. I’m surprised this happened with such low miles on the car/engine, but I don’t have time to take the head off to see what is causing the knock. I’m selling the car for $5,000.00 knowing the car is almost worth double if it didn’t have an engine knock.

Does it actually have a knock or is it injector related? Try cracking the injector lines and see if the knock goes away when you crack one of the lines. If it does, you probably just need the injectors rebuilt. Just as an FYI, $5K will get you a pretty decent CDI. Just sayin'...

It's probably not even injectors at that miles I bet diseasel. I'd wager more towards air of delivery valve seals. the air being the source from the old plastic fuel lines with wrecked o rings. My buddy lives in Maryland $5k is about the going rate of a e300. about 8 or 9k for a CDI.

Hey All,

Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty confident that it is not air in the lines as the knock sounds like something is touching. I'd love to take the head off to see what it could be, but I don't have the time for a project like that. I'd like for the car to go to a good home, I'm open to offers.

Thanks again for the advice.

Why don't you post a video? if it's an internal engine issue that makes the car worth like a grand. $5k is the price of an immaculate e300.

A little help

Hey Guys,

I finally was able to take a video, but I can't upload it as an attachment. I keep on getting the error message below:

This site can’t be reached
The connection was reset.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

Any advice on uploading a video?

Definitely sounds like fuel knock or injector "nailing". The pulsing rubber lines and the skipping seem to suggest air in the system or an injector that's hanging up. I certainly wouldn't write the car off for that, I fixed far worse on my own (sounded like someone hammering an anvil!). There are plenty of threads on this forum to diagnose and solve air getting into the (unbelievably crappy) fuel system on the 606, and plenty on diagnosing fuel knock/nailing if you want to attempt a DIY repair.

Yep, sounds like rod knock.. I've got a grand and I'm coming down that way this weekend.. j/k, that would be a nice scenario for me, but I can't do that to someone. Sounds like a fuel issue like the others have said.

You know what's crazy, is I've never had any real issues with the 606 fuel system. I've had too many 606s, maybe 12 or 13? None of them gave me an issue. People really blow smoke up people's a**** about how bad they are. The people that complain about them are running around with 20 year old fuel lines with original rubber o-rings and wondering why their car is running bad or not at all. I replaced all my lines with new ones and my daily is on its 2nd set with no problems.
