FOR SALE: 1985 300TD, Olympia WA, $2,000

After 14 years, I'm selling The Vegetable.

WHAT: 1985 300TD with 261,500 miles, 80K of them mine. Probably gray market, built in Europe then imported to CA. Has lived on the west coast its whole life, as far as I can tell (virtually no rust). I've kept it in a garage, both at home & work, the whole time.

WHERE: Olympia, WA

CONDITION: Body is in very good condition -- see attached 5 pics, and I have a lot more I can share. Also happy to give you a tour via Skype if you're not in the area. I have the trim piece missing from rear right; came off in a car wash & I never got around to putting it back on.

Systems all work except 1. a/c, and 2. cruise control works only in warm weather, and even then can be a little erratic. This has been my only vehicle (as well as my pride & joy), so I kept up on all repairs. I have all records from the 14 years. Engine is good except for noticeable misfiring and cloudy exhaust from not-fully-burned fuel. 2 of the 3 mechanics I've taken it to, including the folks who've worked on it the last 6-8 years, believe the fuel injector pump needs to be re-built. 3rd mechanic says it could be the timing chains are stretched.

WHY would I want to sell? I just jumped on the electric vehicle bandwagon, and got a Bolt 2 weeks before our state sales tax exemption expired. And I'm a one-car kind of person.

ASKING PRICE: After snooping around the internet, it seems my car in its current condition, minus the misfiring issue, would go for $3,500 around here. Got an estimate for the pump re-build of $1-1.5K. $3,500 - $1,500 = $2,000.

FUEL: I've run the car on biodiesel most of the time I've had it. After several fuel filter changes, there've been no issues. Mercedes switched from natural rubber to synthetics prior to this model's year. Even the rather conservative German mechanics in town have confirmed that bioD hasn't hurt the car. (That surprised me.)

I'm not posting this on Craigslist or eBay yet b/c I'd rather sell to someone who's got an affinity for this sort of car. Guess I'm a sucker for keeping a good thing going...
