Rare 1987 W201 190 turbodiesel
I think i have decided to sell her. I am getting too old to work on her now.
Pros- all original well cared for 190 with the 2.5 liter turbo diesel. Shell Rotella T6 oil replaced twice a year 1/1 and 7/1, Hengst oil filters, engine is strong and really pulls hard, transmission was professionally rebuilt a few years ago and the transmission maintenance was done by the rebuilder. There is zero rust on the car. Car is in NC. no cracks in the windshield. the engine and transmission is a 10. the engine burns zero oil. no oil leaks either. Cons- The blower and the monowiper decided to stop working this past week. Easy enough to fix but I'm too old to be working on it. The body has minor dents in the sides. The paint on the hood and roof and trunk are oxidized. The car was just inspected last week and has a NC registration until 12/19. This has been my daily driver for the past 9 years. Odo shows 231k but no longer turns. This car will drive from coast to coast today. Asking $2500.

i guess i am that old guy with the old benz who goes into the new car showroom and spends a lot of time looking and looking and then goes back out and drives away in his old benz.
i've decided to just fix the blower and the monowiper and just keep driving it for now. the car is 32 years old and just feels like an old faithful dog. i just feels wrong to abandon the dog because he has some arthritis. I mean i hope that my wife and kids don't abandon me because i am getting old. lol. car is not for sale.

Good for you. I am the original owner of an '81 300SD. Will probably never sell it. And it starts and drives just like it did when it was new.
Keep the faith. |

My 190DT has 450K, so you have a lot of good miles ahead.

Good evening, Ben Hogan. Has your 190D 2.5 turbo diesel been converted to R134? I can fix the current problems you have. What was your Hwy mpg on this vehicle. Thanks,Bentrock79.

To Ben Hogan
I know that feeling, Ben - I own and drive a 1984 190D 2.2, and although she's pretty banged up, I wouldn't trade her for the world. The state of California tries to coerce me to retire her every year come registration renewal time, but I always decline. I just can't bear the thought of that giant claw at the junkyard picking her up and smashing her to smithereens.
She's been so faithful and reliable and has seen me through some rough times; never failing to start and never breaking down. What is it, I wonder; about us Benz owners? I have noticed that we all seem to have an emotional attachment to our old Benz's - it is most curious. I'm glad you decided to keep yours, Ben.
