FS - 1995 E420 Special Edition - $5000

SOLD

If you know the venerable W124 500E, you know that the 400E/E420 is the baby brother without the suspension treatment and larger displacement engine. In other words, this is a wolf in sheeps clothing when it comes to pre-AMG Mercedes sedans.

Owned by a 30+ year Mercedes enthusiast, former high line auto mechanic with a reputation for detail and care of their cars known within the Mercedes community, this E420 has been brought to a level of operation approaching when it rolled off the showroom floor.

Due to a recent promotion, my free time has evaporated, leaving me no time to take the car to it's final level by having it painted and returned to near perfect condition. For that matter, the new owner may just be satisfied to enjoy driving the car as-is.

Please read through the extensive list of work performed/parts replaced and feel free to message me with any questions. I don't expect this to last long, being advertised here as well as with a number of Mercedes enthusiast forums.

I am the third owner, the car was delivered in South Florida, remained there until 2017, purchased and moved to Columbus, OH, I purchased last year and returned the car to Florida. Autocheck report shows two front impacts, both in the first two years of the car's life. Repairs were good and everything appears to have been done properly.

Below you'll find a list of the items I addressed on the car. The car is in very good mechanical condition with no body rust. There is some surface rust on portions of the undercarriage, and a portion of the exhaust crossover pipe metal cover (not the exhaust pipe) has corroded away. All body drains are clear and have been replaced with the cavities fogged with FluidFilm rust inhibitor. Door bottoms, fender edges and trunk lip are all clean. There is a slight strip of rust on the right edge of the hood where someone burned through the finish, and some dimpling of the hood on the driver's side.

So what's wrong with the car? Mechanically, nothing. It drives well, runs like a proverbial sewing machine, and has tight suspension and steering. The air (purge) pump rattles on startup, but of course that goes away when it shuts off. Those are the only issues I know of. The interior cosmetics are very good for a car of it's age and mileage. Rubber and trim are very good. Glass is good. The CD changer is recognized by the Becker head unit, but won't load CDs for some reason, but everything else electrical works great. Cosmetically, the exterior needs paint, primarily the roof. The finish is literally baked from what I presume is the South Florida sun. The trunk lid is good, the hood is solid but definitely in need of paint, and three of the four doors (?) are good. The horizontal parts of the doors are faded from the sun, the driver's side rear door the worst of the four. The rear bumper has some minor damage on the top right corner that's not significant from what I can see.

It's a good "10 footer" for sure, and if you look past the roof you could get even closer. I've got lots and lots of pictures, so if you want to see more just let me know.

But wait! That's not all!!!

The bonus, as this is a Special Edition, is a complete set of newly refinished Special Edition wheels that accompany the car. The previous owner had just put Michelin X-Ice snow tires on 8-hole wheels in anticipation of the winter. There is almost no wear on these (9/32 tread depth).

For someone who wants one of these W124 rocket ships and has the means to do the paint work themselves, you could have a very, very nicely sorted E420 with minimal effort. Another alternative is to just buy and drive, and the heck with the exterior. It's not ugly, just not shiny.

Car is located in Tampa, FL. I've got a great shipping broker I've worked with for years if you're looking to have it shipped.

While this is a wild ask, I would consider a trade, possibly with $$, for a nice small pickup truck, such as a Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma.

When the Martha Stewart of the MBZ list says it's "near perfect condition", it is.
As always, excellent job Dan.
