1981 240D 4spd Manual for sale
Our lovable 1981 240D 4spd manual has served us well, but now it’s time to move on. We purchased this car 5 years ago, it was nearly flawless. Unfortunately the original paint has faded since, but nearly everything is unmolested and works quite well. This is a rust free car that has been in Southern California for nearly 40 years. I bought it for our teenage girls for safety, reliability, the Diesel makes talking on the phone inconvenient, you can’t text because you’re shifting and you better be paying attention because it’s slow, real slow! And it was crazy cute for my teenage daughters to learn to drive in. They learned respect and how to care for this classic. Since I picked the car up out of a collection a a few things needed attention as the car was unused for more than a decade. During our ownership I put in a radiator, shocks, bosch alternator and a factory new MBZ AC compressor. I only allowed factory trained MB Techs to work on this car, it needs nothing (I drove it from the Beach to Barstow a few weeks ago, in the slow lane of course). Sure, it’s 40 years old and has a few quirks, but it’s rock solid, it’s rust free and really doesn’t need anything to still be the most reliable Benz ever built. Orient Red over Parchment MB Tex, fully functional AC heat and front defroster work fine, 62hp, 4spd, crank windows and no leaking sunroof! It uses 1 quart of oil in 2,500 miles, it starts right up and drives as the factory intended. I would prefer this car go to someone that will use it and keep it in a garage. I truly enjoyed my time with this car, but it’s time to move on. If you want a $2,500 POS rust bucket don’t call, you can’t have my car. Something more than double that maybe but only if you promise to give to old girl a good home.

I saw it on Facebook Marketplace. It looks like a good one. I also have an 81, Orient Red with Parchment interior but the 300d model. I was wondering, did you make that cup holder? That's what really caught my eye. Ha!

I'd probably buy this if shipping wouldn't cost me 2k. I would love to give it a full paint correction, interior detail and put it on BaT. Good luck with the sale. What is the asking price you have in mind? You alluded to a 5k ask.

A paint job and sort a few bits and this car will stand up to anything that sold on BAT for $18,000 or $20,000.

I could ship this car from Ca to Pennsylvania for $1700 enclosed. I know because I just shipped a Cadillac from Pennsylvania to California for that amount.

Good luck with sale! A manual trans calls to me but my garage is just a wee bit too far away. You said it was slow. Yes, but if it had an automatic it would be Slower.

It may be far away, but you can’t get a rust free car where you are. But it would take a week to drive it home! 😂

A Sweet Ride !
I don't see the asking price anywhere .(I don't have facebok)
This is a seriously great car ! . I'm sure my '82 240D with slushbox is slower yet I don't care ~ I've driven it across America including the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico, it was comfy, safe and economical . Parchment is *SO* pretty ! .
