Can anyone help me. I am looking for an exhaust system for my 1994 E420. Any components will do headers (can't find them anywhere), cat back, just the whole system.
I called tire rack and they did not have anything, for my car. I figured Remus would have something but I don't know. Some one out there must have an exhaust on the 124 V8. If some can tell me where to get an exhaust please let me know. Any help would be appricated Thank You ------------------ 1999 ML320 1995 E320 1994 E420 lowered 1.5 in 1980 300D |

I don't know if anyone has headers for the w124 V8. But If they don't, then you can do what I did by installing a performance Catalytic Convertor that performs better then the stock one and has the sensor adapter for it. If you can find one that has dual outlets, you can cut the resonator out becuase that is just dead weight (about 50lbs) and install two round universal mufflers from Borla that are very samll in diameter and can fit on the left and right side underneath your car. I had this done on my 93 190E m103 3.2 and It costed less then a remus system and sounded just as good and looked even better becuase I had dual tips on both sides that gave it the quad outlet exhaust look. I stuck with square tips, because it follows the theme of the cars shape.
The name of the Borla Universal Mufflers where the "Silver Bullet" model. A much cheaper alternative is to install a muffler in the empty space of the resonator and then split the outlets to create the dual exhaust look. Good Luck. |

The Borla muffler idea seems to be what I would like to do. Where did you get you performance cat form, and was it stainless?
I figure I could take it down to my local muffler shop to be instaled and have the new pipe bent. Thank You RENNtech was very expensive $1,700 fo a muffler. WOW! |

Well It all depends. The aftermarket High Performance Catalyic Convertor was purchased from a Customization shop that had them which were TUV approved T304 and costed about $60. I also had to buy an O2 adapter for the catalytic convertor which costed $15. After that, I used a straight pipe and had it split into 2 pipes. After that, I used the flexible Exhaust Pipe and had it meat up with the mufflers which were the Silver Bullet style on the left and right side. I had the Borla Tips which costed alot, close to $100 themselvs. Break Down
Cats: $75 Mufflers: $250 Tips: $120 Installation of Pipes, and welding: $150. It was the bet thing I loved about the car besides the 3.2 in it. I cut the resonator, and it was one of the best moves I made. P.S. Mkae sure you find a good muffler shop that has the proper clamps and welding equipment to do it. ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benx ML 430 V8 w/custom TV, Video, UHF, speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w. stock stereo for integrated cellular phone speaker system - had a 93 190E m103 3.2, 5-speed trans, - had a 88 300E 2.6 - had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles - 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells) |

That exhaust seems prity cheap. Except for the tips. I saw a picture of them on the borla website Borla.com they look heavy duty, but what would be the advantage of those over the one I can get at the auto parts shop down the road. Are they worth $60 each?
I am not quite sure what TUV means. Certified??? What is the job of the resonated? Dose it make the engine more quiet? Thanks for You'r help |

Well, TUV is the the German government's quality test. Basically, if its TUV certified, its met some of the most stringent test things oculd go through. The tips are expensive, tand the reason being is thats what shows at the end and is what has to last forever while it handles the outlet of hot acidic gasses. The ones you might see at Pep boys are resonated tips, and are strictly added for getting the sound of a meaner tone then what you have. If you want quiet, stick with stock mufflers, all upgrades make the engine tone sweeter.

I just got out from under my car, and there seems to be no room for anathor muffler on the pasanger side of the car (the spair tire is right there). I don't even know if pipeing could be run to make a quad exhaust look. I did see the resonator and the 2 huge cats. I think they would cost a little bit more than $60 a piece being a Mercedes and all. I could put anathor muffler in place of the resonator but I don't know why any one would.
So how could I get that quad exhaust look (I am fine with the dual) if the pipes can't even be run? ![]() Thnks for any advice. PS:Where can I get a good performance cat? ------------------ -1999 ML320 -1995 E320 -1994 E420 (lowered 1.5 in useing Eibach) -1980 300D -Had 1985 300TD Wagon (for over 10 yrs) -Had 1993 190E 2.3 |

Will under my 190E, there is a little opening enough for about 2" in diameter, which is where the pipes would run, clamping them was not easy, but can be done. I placed mine to the right of the spare tire/runk compartment and it worked for me. That is the w201 though. I gutted everything, and then had just one convertor and 2 mufflers put in. Later I had the 2 silver bullet mufflers installed that were about 4" in diameter. I really took the car to a Custom car shop, and they did the measurments and install on it. I just told them what I wanted and ended spendin a little over $600 (but that included some other work.)
Take your car to a shop that knows exhaust work, they will let you know. ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benx ML 430 V8 w/custom TV, Video, UHF, speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w. stock stereo for integrated cellular phone speaker system - had a 93 190E m103 3.2, 5-speed trans, - had a 88 300E 2.6 - had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles - 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells) |

No problem, good luck.
![]() Just some extra advice, go to the dealer and ask for the sizes of the inlets and outlets for the pipes from the headers to the convertor to the resonator, etc. It amkes it easier for the muffler experts to pieace a system to gether that doesn't involve as much labour tryin to adapt different size inlet/outlet mufflers t some of your existing pipes. Like I said Good Luck. And hwen you are done, post a pic on the board. Would love to see it. I ony wish i had some good pics of mine. ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benx ML 430 V8 w/custom TV, Video, UHF, speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w. stock stereo for integrated cellular phone speaker system - had a 93 190E m103 3.2, 5-speed trans, - had a 88 300E 2.6 - had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles - 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells) |
