Thinking about ordering a 2001 E55. I believe 2001 model year is the last year. Anyone have any inside information or seen any articles. Thanks

Kevin: E55 production ends with the '02 MY. 2000 units total, 500 per year from '99-02.

Not correct for US Cars
I've been told, and read, that 2001 is the last year the E55 that will be imported into the US until the new body style is released, even though there will be a 2002 E55 for Europe. Has this changed? I've got a 2001 on order to replace my 99 but would wait for a 2002 if a US version is available.

I have also read that the US-spec E55 production would be for 3 years: '99, '00, and '01. Production numbers are supposed to be either 1500 or 2000, depending on where you read, but MBUSA may decide to cut production short as they did with the C43. MBUSA imported only 1400 C43s, but they planned to import 1500-2000 units, just like the E55. It is definitely NOT split up evenly into 500 units per year.
Anyway, if it's true that '01 is the last model year for the U.S., the last models will be built around June/July. I imagine that it will be difficult to find a dealer with an available E55 allocation for the rest of the model year. |
