posi for a 123?

anybody know off the top of their head if there is any posi unit that will bolt into a 123 body car? i am thinking it would be nice to have on my ex ralley euro 280 for the autocross.

the one from a 16v 190 might fit. anybody know if it mounts up the same?

i just read a post in parts that suggested that all 560sels had posi. anybody confirm this? and will it fit my 123 body? this one i am thinking will not mount the same.

Ah, okay, you amercans always come up with the nicest names for all sorts of things......

Anyway: I am told that the only diff's that will fit a w123 are the w116 diffs and the early (until 1985) w126 diffs like from the 280se, 380se (and maybe some w107 ones...). Newer type w126 diff. (420, 560) doesnt fit I'm told.

And I am also told that almost the only one with 'posi' is the one from a w116 6.9, which makes some sense.

I bought one recently, with the gears ok. Am in the middle of overhauling the thing: new gaskets and posi-stuff, because the posi-discs that were in it were worn, which isnt weird after 30 years or so.

Posi discs altogether are about 250-300 euros.

If you look at the options numbers on the donor cars VIN plate, it should list if it has an LSD or not. I cant remember the code off hand. I dont think that its too rare an option though, my black '85 500 SEL has one, and so did my parts '85 500 SEL

I am looking for a cheap method of shipping used Mercedes parts to New York.

Do you know any shippers. I only have about 40 Kg of parts but one is a bumper and is 1,6 M long.

Groeten uit New York,

Riethoven

YOU can make the 16V limited slip carrier fit into the W123 differential....

Have done that several times & auto-crossed a 1981 280E for several years with that set-up...even won E-street prepared class several years in a row HERE in Atlanta...Beat many a 5.0 Mustang & 6.5 Firebird.

does this help http://mb.braingears.com/126_DISC1/program/Chassis/35-500.pdf

You could always do the poor boy positraction and just get a spare differential and weld some of the innards.

how tough is that?

also wouldnt a total locker be a bit dicey on the street? though it might be worth having an autocross only car. no i dont think so.

Had a friend make a total locker. It wasn't to bad on the street. It ate tires though.

Only thing required to install the limited slip carrier into the W123 is a 5MM spacer & longer ring gear bolts.....then setting up the backlash on the ring gear.
