It's a USA 560. I did see something like that with a screw on lid? I thought it was some kind of diagnostic port, it has electricle pin holes like a canon plug. Maybe my Pop took it out already. Ill have to keep looking.

That's not it...

Do a forum search and you'll find all you want to know about the R16 resistor.

On a W124 it is located in the area of the fuse box near the brake booster/ master cylinder. It plugs onto a wiring harness and is taped over.
It's a fixed value for all USA cars. I believe the USA standard is 750 ohm which retards the timing 6 degrees. No resistor installed provides no spark retard.

Does it do anything...probably as you have more advance.
Can you notice it, probably not on a stock NA engine.

I did a search and read the posts but could'nt find the location on an NA 107. You said I wont notice the difference on a "stock NA" model. I'm having a set of custom headers with two magna-flow cats and straight mufflers put on with no resonator. I'm wondering if I'll see a difference then?

OK I took it off!

Subtle difference?? I actually noticed a big difference from the jump! The idle slowed to about 700rpms but I really noticed a kick up to about 45mph where it seems to level off. It even sounds like there's more efficient combustion going on.

My point of reference is the M103-12V 3.0L I6.

No real difference when stock NA, but dyno showed a difference after twin turbo install.

Stock R107 V8 appears to like the advance as you describe !!

Are you using the Magnaflow spun metal cats...they are the best in their product line, a knock off of the Random Technology cats.
High flow, about $115.00 each and you will see a power increase !!!

Yeah, those are the ones I ordered, I think I got them for under $100 a peice. Unfortunatly I have to wait for my 4 runner to be repaired and the R title paperwork to go through( 6-8 more weeks) before I can give up the 560 for a week. believe it or not I am actually driving this thing every day in the snow up in the mountains!

Yeah, I'm always skepticle when I hear about things like this but it IS really noticable-no wonder people describe such a difference between the less restricted Euro 500sl and the NA 560sl. Although I'd rather have the 5.6 liter once the exhaust is done and now that the resistor is off.
