560SL Differential Clutch Replacment
Gentelmen
I have an 88 560SL that needs the differential clutches replaced. I'm trying to figure out if I can do this with the diff in the car. And do I really need special tools. It looks like this is an in car job IF the spider gear shaft will clear the ring gear. Or do I have to pull the axels and remove the differential from the case and remove the ring gear. It also looks like the axelshaft themselves can be used as the clutch plate installation mandrels. and the pinion mandrel is only a nice to have. (Yes/No)? Also when adjusting the side gear break away torque how much change torque can I expect for each 1/10 mm shim thickness. John Roncallo |
