recently i had to drive the car on 4 clyinders for 50 miles to the closest dealship as i was on my way to california. would this have been the cause.

my car has those symtoms when it is hot it really struggles hard.

with regards to the cats what should i do can they be repaired or do i need new cats. as im only a student i have to save as much as possible.

thanks alot for the advice. i miss being able to really drive the car

You have a C36 and you want sympathy?
I want a C36 but can't afford one. I'm the one who deserves sympathy.
The cats can only be replaced but make sure we are right first though, don't just blindly replace them. We are probably right though.
Regards, Eric

Well if he ran to the dealer on 4 cylinders, he must have clogged up his cats.

I just hate it when folks ask for help and then just leave the thread hanging with no closure. Maybe Jay and I were wrong about the cats. How are we ever going to know for sure?

Are we talking about the cats before the O2 sensor or after the O2 sensor? If it's those pre-cat cats before the O2 sensor then you will have issues with the O2 sensor giving bunk info to the ECU. If it's after the O2 sensor then you will be fine.

Hi, i have a similar problem. Will removing the 2nd catalytic converter (the big one near the back) pose no problems with emissions?

Bong! I think we have talked before! I have a Nephew and a Kuya who both go by that name! The Kuya is here in Cali. and the Nephew is in Zamboanga City. I think there are a lot of Filipinos who use that name!

Removing the 2nd catalytic converter will compromise emissions a bit, but at least it won't affect the O2 sensor(s) like removing the cat(s) ahead of the O2 sensor will. Still, you should try to do the responsible thing and fix it right.
Regards, Eric

My AMG seems to sometimes lose power only when the oil is hot, and not water temp related. So I thought it might be the cam adjuster. And also assumed that how much can that freak of a small mechanical part set me back, so y not go check the stealership for its price and have them order it. So I did and with that I remembered the most famous of sayings: “what did I say about Assumption being the brother, mother, or any other sucker of ****ups!!!.

Any how, the cam actuator for the regular M104 is at abt USD 100 while my beloved AMG modded M104 one is at a scarcely believable; well not scarcely believe but rather stratospherically out of this world @ 2100 USD.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup u read that right. And here is a document from merc for the modification done. Give me ur say on this

"some mods improve your car and make it into something it never was, other mods, however, although essentially the same, are not, and make that car a ricer"

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

Hi Eric, sorry for the late reply. Yes many Pinoys have this nickname. the Mayor of my town (Olongapo) is a Bong too. Where are you from?

I haven't played with the C36 for a while but now I have the time to waste again on trying to solve this problem. Oh well, its a 15 year-old car and having the cat go bad is to be expected...Sigh $$$$
