92 500E Rear exhaust cut out
Has any one done a cut out at the rear lower valance panel below the bumper. I am about to install a Renntech rear muffler on my 92 500E. The car it cam off of had it hung low beneath the panel and it looked like crap plus it dragged the tips a few times . Any pointers on doing a nice cut out ?
Alan

I have done this before on a freinds newer E320, he wanted to add some AMG tips and do the cut out to match the AMG look. I used a drimal tool and did the final clean up / rounded the edges a bit with a file. It looked factory when it was done.
But I would NOT cut up and E500/500E bumper, it's just wrong in my book, even more so if you have a clean low mile car. It's just not an ez thing to change back to stock. Why not work with your muffler shop to get a look you like, maybe even hidden, with out cuting up the bumper ?

I agree with you however this came off of another 500E and it just hung down below the valance that I saw it scrap backing out of driveways etc. I will have it mounted next week and see how it looks before I do anything.
Thanks Alan

I've done this on a few cars, and am about to do it on my 1990 500sl.
Measure, mark with tape - mask the area surrounding it, especially if ur using a dremel. - A hacksaw blade held in your hand works well - wrap the one edge in duct tape to make a handle. The finishing key is to go get some door edge molding - that stuff that they sell at the parts store, and boil a pot of water and dip it in to make it pliable - a heat gun works too, but you have to be really careful not to melt the plastic. Use that as the finish edge, and like others have said, it will look factory. Take care, George

George, Thanks. I have seen a few E -Class in the gallery section here that look like they have the same tailpiece. Some have a cutout and some do not.
I bought this from a guy who had it installed on his 94 E500 with a timevalve piece in between. It seemed to angle the pipes down instead of straight out. He did the install on his own and it may have just been a poor install. I will update this in a few weeks. Thanks Alan
