That M119 is missing it's dizzys! Must be a 96ish M119 in an older car.
That vent on the "C" pillar makes it look like a W201 car. What's up with that?
I wouldn't kick that car out of bed that's for sure!
Regards, Eric

That blue 190 with the 119 engine is probably the best conceived and executed Merc engine swap ever. All in all an amazing, well thought out, and engineered conversion.

Go to the UK Mercedes 190 UK owner's forum (www.mercedes190.co.uk/) and search for posts by "mb5032", the owner/builder. A worthwhile and inspiring read.

The spoiler is the standard AMG ducktail. Not very common but they do come up occasionally on eBay.

Cheers,
bobf.

Oh, so it IS a W201! That explains the C pillar vent! The way the light is hitting the back window makes it look like it is that unique curving W124 rear window so that's what I thought it was. Also never knew of any private party ever putting an M119 into a W201 which is another reason why I just assumed it was a W124. That must have taken some doing! Nice car!!!

All of the tall deck M119s are closed deck. The short deck blocks were closed deck only till about 3/1993. The wild card is the short deck that was used in the 93 R129. GSXR told me that they may have stayed closed deck longer. All of the tall deck engines are CIS-Es and all of the short decks are LH. (At least until they went to Motronoc in 96.) So use that as your identifying feature. W140s were always short deck, W124s were short deck from 92 onward, (which of course means all US W124 M119s were short decks.), but R129s didn't go short deck till 93.

The piston pin heights in the pistons and the con rod lengths are the only differences that you will find inside these two blocks. Oh, and the timing chain is a bit longer of course on the tall deck block.

I know what you are thinking and yes, I agree that the taller deck block is the better foundation to build from. The ability to run a longer con rod makes it worth it to me. I wouldn't worry about clearances in the engine bay when using the taller deck block engine as we are only talking about a .6 inch difference. Being a 90 degree "V", some of that difference goes to slightly increased height, and some of it goes to slightly increased width. As my Grandma would say: "Not enough to amount to a hill of beans!"
Regards, Eric

Not quite, cause I'll take LH over CIS-E. Too bad they never made a tall deck LH combo. Another downside to your combo though is that it's the heaviest car they ever put the M119 in.

But the worst M119 combo is still better than most anybody else's best combo, right?

You mean timing chain.

Maybe the cam phasing gizmos aren't working right.

yeah i have the same feeling abt the advance thingies. I need to scan it but keeping up with all the expences of my cars been killing me. The AMG now now needs rotors all round a 600+ job in parts alone, atleast new rear shocks if not all 4 and new rubbers again.
I shut up i guessss atleast the W124s been doing ok as usuall basic service and thats abt it.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's just a VW VR6 engine under MB badge.

Any way, did we get any another connecting rod option apart M103/M102 145 mm rods, M104 2.8 148 mm rods and M111/M102 2.5 149 mm rods?

Did anyone switch to crank guided rods?
