560 Euro Conversion Complete! Track Trip
Just thought I would join the ranks of the Hot Rod Forum instead of the Performance Paddock only... I finally installed a 560 Euro motor (300hp) with 50K in my 1983 500SEC. The AMG headers bolted right up. Using the CIS fuel injection still but it moves pretty good. I recently added a 3.27 lsd differential in which the lsd mechanism seems useless now. Flooring it from a standstill in 1st gear, the tires smoke all the way thru and halfway thru 2nd when it hooks up. I took it to the track last night and was dissapointed in the times because I couldn't get any traction for the first 60 feet! Did 14.9-15.1's. Temp was 98 for first few runs, then down to a chilly 91 by 8pm so that couldn't have helped. Every car I raced was a honda, toyota, etc., because it was import night. (Me and my cousin-in-law were only benzes there.) I was even or behind for the first 60ft with a smokey mess and as soon as 3rd gear hit, would blow by every car I raced. I'm too cheap to do huge burnouts before each race so I'll have to pick up some used tires that I can melt next time. Maybe I'll have better times to report soon...
