The problem with the swap is that it is not over when you buy the engine. You still have to have a transmission, mounts, driveshaft, ecu, and probably a dozen or so other small things. So even if you can have an engine for around 1500.00 you are not up and running for anywhere near that number. And at the end on a stock engine you are only making 300hp. So now turbo upgrades, tuning etc. Over around 600 and you need head work. If you invested this money in the m104 you could make the same dollar per hp without much problem.
Everyone thinks they just bolt in a 2jz and they have 1500hp.

I have not been impressed with stock mk4 supras. It was by no means enough hp at 11psi of boost.

I've driven a stock (and I mean it) engined 5.0 fox body that made 9 pounds of boost (nothing but a turbo kit). Thru an automatic it made damn near 480 to the tires. Serious difference between that an a inline 6.

The engine is BIG, heavy and pretty complicated in factory/emission legal setup. It isn't unique anymore, and fact you could buy swap mounts for it. Mb's need torque to get moving quickly, especially in a nice chunky w124...

Just think about it before you do anything, that's all I'm saying.

I can get an NA running 2JZ for about $200 locally. (With ECU/wiring harness)

A friend has an R154 with correct bellhousing/clutch/flywheel/pressure plate that I can pick up inexpensively. (Maybe $300.)

Just thinking of doing a different swap. I know it takes $$$ to make power, no doubts about that - and I know I am not going to just get 1500hp from a 2JZ swap.

My main reason for a 2JZ swap - more easily accessible aftermarket parts. And they are abundant here in the junkyards!

Thanks for the link to the mounts RBYCC!
