2JZ W124 swap...

I've seen a few W124/2JZ builds online, but haven't seen anything detailing what all was required...

Anyone have a link to a build thread I can take a look at?

Lexus 300 copied w124 300CE-24v, engine, drivetrain, suspension.
Toyota would build a super sports car and chose to build it on the Lexus 300.
They took the whole car, engine, drivetrain, frame, suspension, only the changed appearance of the body, minimal engine modifications and installed a turbo.
It was born a MK4.

So why change a Mercedes engine with a copy that cost 20 times more expensive , harder to find and more expensive to tune? :)

Even sound of 2jz is allmost the same as m104 :D

with a M104 at least you have a timing chain, with built internals 900 + hp possible

both m104 and 2jz handle 1000hp but the price is real big difference.

In sweden used m103/m104 cost about 250-750 $
used 2jz is about 3500-10000 $

You can buy them for less in the USA.
Main advantage with the Toyota motor is that it is factory turbocharged so no custom fabrication as with the M104.

Fairly common swap in the Far East...engine mount kits readily available:

DieselPaul 10-12-2013 01:29 AM

Not in the us with a turbocharger.

ccrelan 10-12-2013 09:32 AM

Yes, but you readily buy the toyota turbo bits anywhere. I would love some of Roman's parts but they cost a fortune compared to sourcing off the shelf turbo parts here in the US.

DieselPaul 10-12-2013 09:38 AM

anything is possible modified, RBYCC said its a good choice because its factory turbocharged and sl320 asked what US cars it came in. If we are talking factory cars with a turbo, the answer is mk4 supra.

yzn 10-12-2013 09:59 AM

engine price and availability depend highly on the country
here 2jz cost a fortune and don't forget the gearbox if lucky and found one it will be the same price as the engine here

DieselPaul 10-12-2013 10:06 AM

I was looking at JDM 1JZs on eBay a while back, they can be had much cheaper and are still pretty robust and have a big aftermarket.

OP and 97SL320 never asked specifically for the turbo motor.
