Ignition upgrade
People continue to tell me Mercedes 450 SLC needs copper plugs BECAUSE the ignition system has such low voltage/amperage.
So has anyone replaced the Mercedes coil and ignition module? I have a MSD unit somewhere in my garage, I am assuming the distributor module can send the signal to the MSD unit. Not trying for 75,000 volts, just more than the anemic 20,000 of the stock ignition module. I want to be able to replace everything as I have been saving every stock part I take off. |

upgrading ignition can really help with mileage, but don't expect horsepower gains.Older engines with less close tolerances, need a wider spark. most modern plugs use small diameter electrodes. A older motor would foul them quicker, with trash blowing around the combustion chamber.
