You are not alone!
Brothers of the mercedesshop.com forum.
I just would like to say how much I appreciate all of you for your insight, helpful hints, wisdom and kind words of encouragement. I suddenly became teary eyed (not reallly) today while tackling a job that has plagued me for at least 5 years. One of the 3 nuts which holds the wood veneer on my drivers door came off about 5 yrs ago and the shops told me it would be $100 to remove/repair.(Never really thought to go to a stereo shop and get it done). Any way, I read the do it yourself section the other evening and FINALLY mustered up the courage to do the damn job. Easy as pie 30 mins tops. I think originally I didn't want to tackle it and most other jobs on this car because of the stigma of it being expensive, german, complicated etc. but after the warranty/lien ran out and she was "All Mine", I dropped all those foolish ideas and began to take my rather well stocked supply of wrenches to the ol girl. So now, with the help/support/backing of all you guys, I feel confident to tackle most of the NEAR expert jobs that need to be handled on both cars. I can tell you now, i ain't messing with the Evap. core job. I saw the terrible vision as the job was being performed on the 500e. So what i'm trying to say to you is this, if there is anybody else afraid of their W124, don't be. The things a peach to work on so. If you used to tear down and rebuild the carburetor on your old Chevy, you should have no prob working / doing most jobs on the MB. That said, once again, thanks everybody for being there for me and for being there for each other. This is a really great forum and you're a terrific bunch of guys (& gals) and let me close by saying............. I Love You Man!(sniff) |

Hey guys, you know what happens alot on our cars Al, is the seat switches they become recessed sometimes, and the bezel piece that goes around the switch, has to be pushed in all the time. I have to remove my drivers door panel, for this. Sometimes even me with all my experince, itrs funny when you work on your own cars, I feel like i jinxed or I am jinxed when I start messing with it.
I knoe how you feel. I can tear into a brand new 2003 SL500R. No problem, but my car I trip out a little at times. I installed a new radiator in the 500 yesterday, since the tanks we leaking on the side. Damn thing still runs warm,I have friends with 2 other 500's in my shop there's run soo nice, soon as mine see's 85C it keeps going to around 100. I took off my cooling mod harness just to see what would happen, and well its still happening. Just to let you know your not alone Guido
