Wow, authenticating a real AMG car can be dicey with these ads!
Dean, do you have AMG production and VIN info? I RARELY see the real deal on e-Bay re: AMG cars. Pity the fool who doles out the big money for this car! ![]() |

Sorry, I don't have that info. If anyone does, I'd appreciate knowing too!
![]() The ad is misleading by implying this 1986 model is one of a series of conversions done by AMG in 1994.... You can check out my website for AMG history and magazine articles.

I was looking mainly at the pics.. an now noticed that it says produced in 1994. Too bad its not the REAL factory AMG... but a repro AMG. Still a nice car though

AMG cars and wannabees
There are a BUNCH of cars out there that people would like for you believe they are AMG cars, but are really not. I don't think there's anything wrong with putting AMG accessories on your Merc, but to try to perpetrate you bought the car as an AMG modified car is fraud. There is a reason why the folks at AMG put those plates on the cars! Anyhoo....

My uncle had the Real one like 7 years ago...I love that car...so freeken fast....He had it repainted bright black (OE color was black too, but it was kinda messed up). I don't remember what # his was, be it was somewhere around the 10's or so...I'll ask him. Till this day he regrets selling it, but he had to, because of financial problems

Having to sell a loved car......
I hear these stories and it breaks my heart to hear about it. Those AMG cars were notoriously fast. Very easy to fall in love with, and horribly expensive to maintain when it came time for parts. You don't see too many of the older AMG cars out there, and when you do, either they are "garage queens" or "tired ex-miami vice props" I'd love to grab one and restore it, but don't think I have deep enough pockets to restore one of those, let alone be able to find original parts for those things!!! I saw a 300ce coupe body sans-motor that was an original AMG car, plates and all. Had a V8 in there at one point in time. I saw it on eBay a while ago, and that could be a COOL project with the right owner. 500ce W124 AMG coupe- WOO HOO!!! Imagine the looks on these peoples faces when you just smoke the livin' #@$% out of the tires and take off like you were shot out of a cannon!!! Can you say pocket rocket anyone?
