What an interesting topic so far. Some people have crappy Rolex and MB, while others are trouble free. My 2 Rolexes keep perfect time, and my R129 runs just fine (so is my ML). Bet if you post a thread on Timex, Bimmer, Jag, or C-5, you will get the same problem/complain (check out the Corvette forum and see the headaches those poor guys are having, or the http://www.rennlist.org for Porches). Its not the brand you own, its how you enjoy what you have. There are plenty of people who would love to drive a MB and own a Rolex even if they don't work worth a damn. I am just lucky enough to have both. Just my 2 cents.

I have to admit to a dark past...I've previously owned two Hondas. In fact, I got rid of the last one, an "S" type hatchback, simply because it was boring. It ran like a sewing machine and required no attention. Drove me crazy...I need to fuss and tinker and feel I have something special.

As far as watches go, I had the same dilemma. I've had many quartz watches and they all kept unerring time but, one can also appreciate the handcrafted micro-technology behind a complicated mechanical movement.

In either case, I can admire the search for perfection in a fine auto or mechanical wristwatch and tolerate results that may be less than perfect. Its the "soul", you know.

Dean,

Before my 124 300E and my 140 500SEL I drove a honda too! Incidentally, it was a '94 and my 300E was a 90 and my "new" 500SEL is a 93...in no way was the difference between the cars more evident than in two back to back weekend drives to New York City, which is about 5 1/2 hours from me...the first weekend I drove the accord and I felt fatigued after each trip, it just seemed like it was more work to drive...the next weekend I drove the 300E and it just seemed so composed and relaxed, even though the honda had comparatively more power steering assist...with the benz every bolt was probably a half turn tighter, every angle was probably measured and considered and scrutinzed for a few more design cycles, that it all added up to a much more enjoyable highway trip. Not to down the honda because it gave me 110k trouble free (never spent the night at a shop) miles through college, while I can't say the same for the Benzes...but just like the rolex, there's a reason that my other watches collect a little more dust.

Happy Motoring (sorry Akry )

Lee, if you're reading (i know you are) GET THAT RENNTECH!!! AND LET ALL SENIOR MEMBERS TAKE IT FOR A FLOGGING!!!

Fellow rabis,
I would like to pick up that Renntech but I need to clear garage and financial space by selling the C36 first. Maybe I could throw in a test drive (or at least ride) in the Renntech to the senior member who buys the C36...

Lee,

Why would you prefer the Renn Tech, I would think that the C36 is the faster of the two. Is it that 190 Penn Tech or a different one. Well Best Of Luck

Renntech. 500E. 6.0 Litre displacement.

C36 is fast, but 500E is lightning. Renntech 500E 6.0 is what lightning probably dreams about, in the most sleeper of sleeper body styles...Viper and carerra hunting perhaps? Lee, if you pick it up, slap on a 260E badge and let the fun begin!

Alex, since you're a new member, for reference Renntech = fast, expensive, and fast too!

I know what Renn Tech is , its that the car that I thought Lee wants to buy is that 190 converted into a dream machine by Renn Tech. That one has only a 3.2 litre engine as opposed to the C36's 3.6 litre engine. I didn't know Lee wants a 6.0 500E. Is he converting his 500E or just buying a completly new rig. Also what is the 0-60, quater mile and top end.

There was a AMG 6.0 for sale here in Berkeley, CA which I presume is not the renntech Lee has his sights on. This car had a completly different drive train and suspension. It also had a velour interior. The fellow claimed it was indeed an AMG. He said that because the HP and Torque were so high they even put in a lower (numerical) differential.

Curious to know what's done to a Renntech 6.0 besides the engine?

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you. j/k What we do know about the Renntech 6.0 is that in addition to the engine it has the upgraded cooling (engine oil/tranny/radiator), brakes (not sure of exact diameter or even just the 600SL), suspension work, 17" wheels/tires, and tranny/diff fortification. No further updates on that situation of yet. Last I talked to the owner the car was in for a 30K interval service and he'd call me when he got it back from RBM (local dealer). Still not dead set on this car but it is at least worth a look. Since I have not had any nibbles on the C36 it looks like it all may be a moot point anyhow. I it looks like things are a no-go for me I could pass on the info to any interested Shop Forum members.

Lee,
Out of curiosity how many miles does the c 36 have, what year is it and how much are you asking. I'll look around to see if anybody here in my area is interested.

There's a 6.0L renntech w124 in the Dupont Registry magazine. It's selling for $40k I believe but has a lot of miles on it. It's been on there but hasn't been sold yet. (It looks awesome!)
I THINK it's a modified 500E but i'm not sure.

Capt Alex, see the Shop Swap Classified section for a thread titled "95 C36 FS" or something similar. The full description of the car is there.

Guess I'm a little late on this one but:

Cars:

'88 300E Five Speed Manual
'84 240D Manual
'88 Vette Manual

Watches:

Rolex Oyster Perpetual "Gold Top"
1885 Coin Silver American Watch Co. Hunter Case
Quartz Cheapie I wear most days

Hope this satisfies the survey.
