Question The Grand National is almost sold.....

so I have narrowed my choice to the C 43 or C 32 AMG. The cars I have my eye on is a 1999 Black C 43 with 65,000 kms for $40,000 or a C 32 with 12,000 kms for $60,000. For the $20,000, will I be that much happier with the C 32? I know it is quicker but is there anything else? I drove a 1997 C 36 and really liked it but I would like something newer. I guess the question is, would I be really dissappointed with the C 43 or should I go all nuts for the C 32? Thank you. Shaun.

Shaun, I notice that you are in Vancouver, Canada. Are these amounts in Canadian $$ or US $$.

Canadian Funds.

Yes Vince they are, sorry. I know the C 36 vs. C43 threads have been done a million times (I have read them all) but very little comparing the C 36 or C43 to the new C 32. Is it no contest regardless of price? Cheers!

Shaun, do you modify your cars? Is so, what's important.

How long do you typically keep your cars?

How important are the newer features that come in the C32?

Thumbs up Good question!

roas. I have a Buick Grand National that is so modded it is insane. It dynoed at 333 to the rear wheels! That being said, it is something I want to get away from. With the C 36 and C43, you are limited to filters maybe, RON93 in the C 43, Pulley set for the C 32, and cumputer upgrades for all of them. I want to keep the modifications limited. Get under any C 36 or C 43 and take a look at the exhaust. There is no way of improving those systems. I laugh when I see posts about improving the exhaust on my C 36 or C 43. They are awesome systems period! If you want more sound, go to one of the tuners but that's it.

Usually not very long but I want to keep the Merc for about 3 years when I may be able to afford a 2003 E55.

I'm not sure of the features you mean? I do know the older C class are different form the newer ones.

With $20k in your pocket, adding a Kleemann blower later is a nice option if you feel you need more power.

Hey CGenberg. That is a good point. That may be my decision factor when I get beat I think I am leaning towards the C 43. The C 36 and C 43 are very limited and special I think. I heard that the C 32 numbers are going to be bumped up now. I hope AMG doesn't let the cars lose their exclusivity. Thanks for the replies guys.

Shaun

P.S. The more I think about it, C 36, C 43, C 32....you can't go wrong really.

The reason I say this is back in 1998 when I first saw the C 43, my brother (fellow board meber and proud owner of an 87 300 E) was laughing at me because I was checking out the exhaust and yelling sweeeeet! Take a look at a stock 1990 IROC Z. 350 cubic inches and a single 2.5 inch pipe. Obviously fueling the aftermarket. I think the C 43 has dual 2.5 or 2.75 pipes all mandrel bent. This is the stuff I want to get away from in my first post. Love those AMG's!

Actually....

While the C36 is a fine car, do NOT buy it if you are contemplating further power mods. There is next to nothing to do for this car off the shelf. It's a modded 3.2L motor so there is little room left to go.

The C43 is a MUCH better starting point in terms of tuning. If only the damn seats weren't so hard...

Try Grand Natioanl seats. If you want a whole new meaning to "Pain in the a$$ "

C 43 may be the way to go. Thanks again.
