Talking Aerodynamics 101

I hope you find the info interesting....

==========================

Shortly after the Geneva Motor Show, Jurgen Hubbert, member of the managerial board in charge of the Passenger Car & Motorsport Division was asked why the 190E EVOII looked so outrageous.

He conceded that the look of the EVOII was in fact unusual for a MB and explained that it looks was strictly a matter of function. All of the 500 EVOII built were sold before it was first unveiled They were actually all sold before they were built!!

Professor Hubbert explained that the EVOII design was primarily the result of highly sophisticated research on the aerodynamics applied to racing cars. The priority was not least air resistance but turning the car handling to the different tracks it would compete one. Just by changing the angle of the rear flap, you can go from oversteer to understeer

WIND TUNNEL DESIGN

The front spoiler & splitter contributes dramatically to the EVOII performance and handling. The air dam designed under the bumper has 3 major functions;

1. Reducing airflow under the car
2. Delivering increased downforce
3. Talking fresh air to cool the engine

The front splitter can be manually pulled forward is very efficient in providing increased negative lift pressure on the front axle. The fenders were designed by the wind tunnel to meet the desired drag coefficient.

I have more info if anybody is interested=> how the EVO's are betters aerodynamically compared to a normal 190E 2.5-16... Not to mention my site which contains all the info you might need about that cool Benz=> http://www.geocities.com/nideggerh/evo2.html

I love the history, and your car.

Too bad, it's too hard to get this car in the USA.

Dang that's pretty. Now I want that "evolution" fender badge. Wonder if I can locate the part number in the Euro EPC... Yep, found it, the left badge is available - but not the right side. That's odd. But DAMN it's expensive:

A2018172315
TYPE DESIGNATION
PENELLING TO LEFT FRONT FENDER, "EVOLUTION"
EUR 81.10
The part is available.
