Question Throttle Position Switch/Sensor Question

Since I am switching to a sequential fuel injection on my 300E for my turbo project I will be needing a TPS with a potentiometer in it to get a variable reading.
The problem is, I'm not sure if the original TPS is just a WOT switch or if it has a pot in it. I tested the TPS with a multimeter and it gives me sparratic readings in the kilo ohm range except for fully open or closed in which it shows a closed circuit at these points.
So, either the sensor is just old and needs to be replaced or it is just a two pole switch. If the TPS is not a variable resistor type or the sensor is bad. Is thier any replacement that would be close to a direct fit? I'm taking this question as a long shot but it never hurts to ask! Besides, if the TPS is variable and bad, I don't want to spend $450 for the whole throttle body!
I hope I explained my situation correctly, Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Adam
