400E Dyno Results

Got my car dyno'd tonight, and was dissapointed. It put down 207 Horsepower and 239 ib/ft torque. They said it was running Very lean. Doesnt make sense but i had reset my LH module and i dont think it had evened out. 207 Hp would not get a 400E through the 1/4 in 14.8

What is the hp of a stock 400E? You usually use between 18% to 20% driveline loss for an automatic. 207 RWHP hp is equal to around 252 to 258 crank hp. For comparison, my 560 SEC at 7 psi dynos at 346 RWHP and 404 RWTQ.

Stock Crank HP on a 400E is 275....dyno should show 220-226 RWHP...

i need a way to richen the mixture. Should be 220-225 to the wheels. BTW, it did the 1/4 in 14.85, so there is no way it was putting down 207 then. Here is the graph

nm, i guess its too big for this site, so here is the link

take into account more than just the 1/4 mile. Anyone know the weight? A new SRT-4 has 240 crank hp (listed) and does the 1/4 in mid 13. (i know their isnt any comparison just saying that 1/4 on its own isn't enough to figure out hp)

Just for a real world comparisons : I raced my 400E against a new SRT-4 in the 1/4 mile last month -- SRT-4 turned a 14.600 at 98.24 I turned a 14.999 at 93.38 --- So in this setting I was only .399 seconds slower --and I had bad plugs -rotors and caps !!!!!!!!!!

that is lean, if you could find a way to richen it up a bit up top i think you would gain a little power

Son of Matt ,

There are many different factors that effect 1/4 mile times .
One of the main ones is elevation (how much oxygen is in the air). Another is the air temperature . Any car will turn a faster time at sea level than it will in the Colorado mountains. You say your friend turned a 14.2 with his srt-4 then the question I would ask is what city and state did this happen in - What elevation??
Temp etc. Now I could say your friends time of 14.2 is really slow compared to your fathers statement that an srt-4 turns a mid 13 second 1/4 mile time !!!!!! These statements would be correct in a world where all the variables (temp-elevation etc were all the same) But in the real world you can not directly compare 1/4 mile times
of a car in florida to one in Wisconsin or Colorado . From good sources I can tell you that if I took my car to Colorado it would take close to 2 seconds more to hit 60 mph and if I took my car to Florida I would lower my 0-60 times by around .5 seconds.

I posted a real world comparison between my 400E and a SVT-4 as raced in Union Grove Wisconsin . 1/4 mile time comparisons are only valid when you are racing at the same track on the same day !!!!

More oxygen more power -- Nitrous oxide

What kind of Mercedes do you drive ??

Right, so you were less than 800ft above sea level and, being in Wisconsin, it was probably pretty cool out. Plus everyone who loses to a Dodge neon probably has bad plugs, "caps" & "rotors," and flux capacitors at the time. 13 second SRT-4's are the real deal. I don't think a 400E with good plugs, cap and rotor would keep up with an SRT-4 even at sea level and 39F degrees.

just for thought, but not all dyno's are accurate. possible your car is up to par, but the dyno is off.

Lean

The '93 400E never goes open loop at WOT, but sticks at roughly 14.7:1. That's stoichimetric, but in the eyes of a dyno and making power, it's lean.

You cannot self-adjust the mixture, the car will continue to lean out the mixture by modulating the injector duty cycle until it gets back to 14.7.

There is 7-10HP available running a richer, open loop condition around 12.5:1, but it's not a massive gain.

Fuel quality, engine temps, and how the EZL was managing timing (knock) would be the primary places to look for a bad run on the dyno. Try running on a cool day and use real octane boost to see what your car can put out.

You can't

as far as I know.

That's what the various M119 LH "chips" try to do. They do richen the mixture up a bit but only for a short while then the ECU seems to override it anyways.

I have yet to find one that is actually able to keep the car in an open loop condition at WOT.

We include an override methodology as part of our nitrous kits for these cars, but it's only worthwhile in conjunction with the other changes the kit makes to the car and not on it's own.

carl, do you think anything like the Apexi SAFC would be able to hook up to a w124? Alot of people around here run them on their imports and they seem to work well
