Oil for my 16V
Well, its time to change the oil. After playing around for a few weeks, I need an oil change. What kind of oil do you recommend? My mechanic states 20W50. What do you think?

Oil threads almost always get out of hand, so I usually try to avoid them, but here goes...
For oil weight, follow the owner's manual for the temperature range you live in. You'll have to decide what brand and type of oil to use. Personally, I use Mobil 1, 15W-50...year around in all the cars. |

Yup, oil threads sure can get messy . . . I've switched to canola for the daily stuff, but think that peanut works best for high temp applications.

I second the recommendation for a Mobil 1 product. I ran 15W-50 in my 1986, along with a few other brands of similar viscosity, and the engine is in great shape with 215,000 or so miles. I recently (about a year ago) started using Delvac 1 (5W-40) in my Diesels and now use it for all my cars. I still change it every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.
Good luck and enjoy the car, Jim

I went with the 20W50 "racing oil" as my guy calls it. So far, no grinding haults... Didn't want to go synthetic for I could do without the leaks...
