Tilt Wheel

I don't mean to start a flame war here, but for $63K American, you'd think a 1988 model car would have way to adjust the steering wheel (you know, tilt up for us fat arse drivers like myself).

Does anyone know if an enterprising 107 SL owner has modified a steering column to include tilt? It sure would make it easier to get in (and out) of the seat! This mod would also make it a lot easier to service the instrument panel... i.e change bulbs, etc. This is the only gripe I can think of concerning my 560... That and the wheel is so DARN large! If it wern't for the airbag, I'd be intrested in replacing the wheel with a smaller one.

perhaps I could drop a few pounds; however, that alone would not facilitate easier ingress and egress necessarily... Been in higher, 4x4-type vehicles for too long, I guess. Hard to slide in some days when the ole knees act up.

I was muttering about the same thing myself. My '90 420SEL had and adjustable wheel.....in and out not up and down, and even that would have been a real nice feature on the 107.

Now that you are on the subject, how about remote trunk and gas cap release? Even a dirt cheap Honda Civic of the same vintage had them, but not on a $85K SL?

Keep in mind that this chassis was designed in the late '60s.

I was just going to say that and add, I like the simplicity of this car! I also like the manual soft top. You gotta do a little work to make this car happen for you, it puts you in more active contact (hands on) with it.

I will agree though, a telescopic steering column would have been nice, and a drivers seat that raised higher than it does raise, and the fuel economy could have been far better.......Oh well, nothings perfect!

Putting that top up and down always makes me feel like like I'm on a boat. The seat adjustment, too. Everything is manual and lots of little levers and cranks and such. The ones in white with a blue top seem especially nautical to me.
