all for a little light....
Hello. This is my first ever try on here so here goes. I have a 500sl 1984. The ac worked fine, but the dash light on it did not glow, so I just pulled out the rocker switch to see what was there. By accident, one of the wires fell out and I thought, no prob. the post will be shinier than the rest so I will know were to re-connect..Wrong...Then, I noticed single blue, green, and gray wires just laying there all disconnected. How is it possible for a simple rocker switch with 7 male posts to control more than 1 function of on/off?
This is 5 wires to this one switch, unreal lol. I am seeking a wiring diagram I guess, as I might damage something by just attempting to get the a/c back on...I was able to get turn signals working with circut tester and VOM, as someone had really messed up....wires had no continuity...red went to blue to black to white ect. I love messin' with it at any rate, and am glad to have found my way back here. Have a good evening all. Any ideas of where to obtain a wiring diagram would really be appreicated. |

No reason to panic ...
A 500SL is a euro car so there is a better than even chance that your AC is aftermarket. So the factory diagram may be of littlle use. The reason that there are so many connectors is that the switch does not just engage the compressor - in the factory arrangement, it signals for the flaps to move into the AC position which limits the outside air coming in and probably some other stuff. Not all aftermarket AC installers would hook this up.
Try this web site to find out if your car came with factory AC for starters. http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng
