Failed Calif Smog results attached
My 1986 560sl failed the Calif smog check. I was told intially that I had a blown catalytic, but after discovering a hole in the rear muffler, I'm not so sure.
Please find attached, the results of the smog test. The failed measurements are highlighted in bold. Thanks! smog test.doc |

Needs Tune Up
Your HC readings indicate that is time for spark plugs at least. I can't help you with the NO, no experience with it but once you get it tuned properly, I think that will drop too. Your CO is good so your cats are working to some degree. Look for vacuum leaks, make sure your air filter is new and I think you might be out of the woods.

You have high readings on everything. Even though CO passes its still very high. A cat is a very good possibility but also an expensive guess. If plugs were causing HC to fail there should be a noticable misfire. A hole in the muffler wont make a difference. Sorry I cant help you any further.
