1995 Sl320 Locks Up In Reverse - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Our 1995 SL320 will only travel a couple of inches in reverse and then locks up. All other gears work properly. Any idea of the problem?

What does this mean - locks up in reverse? The shifter won't move, or the car jerks to a stop, or reverse is disengaging and the car still rolls?

Is the parking brake on?

by locking up I mean it comes to a sudden hard stop and will not move at all. I can then put it into neutral and push it back or I can put it into drive and it will move forward.

It comes to a sudden, total stop and will not move at all. I can put it into neutral and push it backwards or I can put it into drive and go forward. just no reverse.
