107 gap between body and softtop
I have a 1974 450sl and just put a new top on it. Just like the old top, there is a gap of about 1/2 inch between the body and skirt on the canvas top. This is just behind the driver's seat and passenger seat on both sides of the car. The skirt does not sit down on the body at these spots. Also, there is no seal at these points. Is there an adjustment to the frame of the softtop to adjust for this? Any ideas?

I had the same problem on 87 560SL - to my knowledge that is how it was designed.
No seal that I have seen..... |

There is no seal on the R107 soft top in the area. However, when the top is new and installed correctly it sits fairly tight against the body.
I have always thought it was a strange design! The predecessor (W113) sealed tight all the way around.

There is a seal about 2 inches in. The canvas top sits just off the paint so that it doesn't chaff.

What seal? It is commonly known that there's an 8" gap behind door window on an R107 soft top. Does you top actually have a rubber seal in this area? If so, what brand of soft top do you have? The GAHH top on my car doesn't have this.
