Hello all - I have a '73 450 SL and I am trying to figure out what the interior color is called. It is kind of a dark rusty brown. What color options were available on the '73s? I need to order new interior quarter panels because the previous owner butchered the original ones installing speakers. Is there anywhere on the car that would indicate the interior color. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The codes for your car are located on the radiator support. If you look at all of the numbers there and compare them to the list posted at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/mbcodes.htm, you should be able to determine which code is for your upholstry. Once you know the code, you can call your dealer to find out what the official name is.
For example, my upholstry code is 274. According to the website above, it's a Light Tan Leather. The official name is Palamino. I don't know of a website that has these official names. I happen to have an original color code brochure from 1988, the same model year of my car. But any dealership should know. Hope this helps.

Thanks
Hey, thanks for the info. The link doesn't seem to work, however. I actually think I figured the color out. I think it is called tobacco (kinda looks like tobacco too). I went to World Upholstery's website and looked at their pre-'75 colors. Thanks for letting me know where to find the codes, though.

I fixed the link, the editor on this site decided to include the comma as part of the URL. I edited it to take it out of the URL.
