560SL jumping needles
Help,
Had some A/C work done on my 560SL which involved the instrument cluster being removed and since its come back I have jumping needle syndrone on the fuel and temp guage and on closer inspection both the direction lights are on permanently but very dim and at night the cluster flashes like vegas when i put the left hand turn signal on. I have tried fitting an old cluster i had and it does the same so i reckon its not the cluster its an earth somewhere under the dash but where!!! Tks Andy D |

Oh and my A/C 'genius' left me a piece of black wire about 12inches long with a push connector on each end that he 'found' under the dash and what makes it even worse the A/C still doesnt work properly!!!

Yeah I found one of thoes too when working on my dash, theres a few of them in there. I was able to put all but 1 of them back into place, they connect various parts of the climate control system to other stuff. Funny thing about thoes, my accII system worked about the same before I took the dash apart (and there were a bunch of these wires that were disconnected) as it did after I put them into place and sealed her back up, it leads me to believe these wires do not play much of a role in the climate controal system. My ACCII system works about as well as any ACCII system can.

Those sound like the fiberoptic light wires for illumination. Jim

Cheers Jim,
I have found another workshop who is now looking at it, first thing the guy said when i took it in was that its a broken earth on the back of the instrument cluster. Second thing was exactly what you said 'its a fibre optic cable". I have confidence in this place cos they are rebuilding 2 R107's and have 3 outside which they use for spares if needed. Place islike an aladdins kingdom where they are working on everything from a Karmin Ghia to Porsche Cayman plus a whole array of Mercs from G Wagons to SL55's. So hopefully this place will fix it rather than destroy like the other monkey!! Thanks for your help guys!! |
