113 steering wheel removal
I want to replace the stock steering wheel on my 280SL with a Nardi. Anyone know the procedure for removing the old one?
Will this hub work? ![]() Any pics if possible would be great Thanks in advance

Pop the padded horn center off. It's held on by three snaps.
This reveals the bolt the holds the steering wheel on the shaft. It's a 10mm hex key to remove. Be careful when applying torque, you can break the steering lock unless you hold the wheel while removing the bolt. Jim

I thought I wanted to do that about 25 years ago. Now every time I see an SL with a beat up Nardy wheel, I'm proud I didn't. Yes the stock wheel is big, but it is the stock wheel. The wood wheels loose the clear coat finish in patches. It looks ameturish after a just few years.
What ever keep the stock wheel, horn ring and pad. If you keep the car, you will wnat it back on some day. If you sell the car the new owner will want the original, not the unique Nardy you chose. JMO after 30 years with a 250 SL. |
