R230 Heat/AC problem
Hello my neighbor has a 2003 R230 SL and she wanted to see if I could help fix her AC/heat problem. All she said was that very hot air was blowing out the floor vents, so hot she had to bring it back home and drive her other car. I haven't personally sat down in it and looked it over but I will if she wants me to. Any ideas on what the problam could be with this very limited amount of info? My first thought was a broken heater valve was letting cold air into the heater core causing hot air. The car is out of warrenty and will be very expensive it fix if taken to the dealer. Thanks in advance.

The heater valve on this car is called the heat exchanger shutoff motor. That could be faulty and so could the in-dash control unit. I believe this problem is quick and easy to diagnose with a Mercedes Star Diagnosis (SDS) computer and very difficult without. I suggest that your friend take her car to an independent shop that has SDS.
