r129 oil spec and pressure

Hello all.
I'm new to the forum, recently started on the hunt for a r129 500.

I drove a '92 500sl the other day with apparent oil pressure issues.
I was told it was running Valvoline (dino) 15w-40.
The oil pressure gauge sat quite low at tickover, never made it as high as 3 bar, and actually dropped to zero (+oil light) when held in 2nd gear and taken to highish revs !
I'm used to a '95 320 that had 3 bar pressure at all but tickover when hot.

1. Should a M113 motor run oil pressure this 'low' (ignoring the 'zero fault') ?
2. What oil are people running these engines on ?
(I still have personal 'stock' of Mobil 1, but have been told it is not the best oil
for the V8 motor. Would it actually do any harm ?)


Any advice would be most welcome. I'm afraid I may have a lot more questions before I find the right car !
