EPCnet Research Request: Throttle Clamp
As I am unable to access EPCnet with my Apple-brand computer, could someone with spare time lookup this part?...
...it's the large hose clamp that affixes the Air Guide (aka rubber boot) atop the throttle body. The target vehicle is an '86 560SL. Here's an extract from the MB service manual: I need the proper name and part number for "15" above. Here's a picture of my busted clamp: Both the buckle and the banding material broke when I tried to retighten this clamp last week. Another forum member claimed to have repaired his for reuse, but I don't see that happening with mine. I found the word "NORMETTA" stamped on the buckle. A Google search revealed the Norma company's clamping products: http://www.normagroup.com/kunden/norma/ttw.nsf/id/EN_NORMAFIX_NORMETTA_Short_Description_Details. I didn't see any convenient sources in the U.S. Armed with a MB part number, I can query Fastlane for a quote. Thanks in advance! If you know of a viable substitute for this part, I'd appreciate the tip. I don't see how a generic hose clamp will work in the space where this thing lives on the engine...there's no way to tighten it. Anybody else solve this dilemma? |

The strap is N900 263 009 000.
The "loom tie" (lock) is N900 262 009 300. Do you have an aversion to dealers or do your dealer's parts guys not know their jobs? This would have been very easy for them, and you are going to have to buy these parts from a dealer anyway.

Sorry, didn't realize that you were dealer-deprived.
Probably the best thing to do is to call Phil at Fastlane or Rusty at ***************, give him the part numbers and have them shipped. Both places have relationships with MB for factory parts. There is also at least one dealer, Caliber Motors in CA that will ship parts.

Waitin' on a quote from Phil at Fastlane. Is it appropriate to post the prices he gives on this forum?

No price to share anyway.
Fastlane deferred me to query Mercedes, and I don't want to know their price, yet.
I'm going to try a generic hose clamp first. Don't let me forget to update this thread with the outcome. |

You might be surprised in a good way at the dealers price. When I needed a new heater blower unit for my '73 450SL they were within $20.00 of online prices.
Piston rings were a different story. |

I bought one last year, and it was $6.71 list.
IIRC, the clearance is tight and the main issue will be tightening the clamp.

Shadetree Victory
I was able to substitute a generic stainless steel hose clamp today with little difficulty. Although the new clamp was wider than the 9mm Normetta banding, some carefully utility knife trimming off the Air Guide ensured an accommodating fit. I've got pictures, should anyone need to see details.
The larger challenge was tightening the screw with the assembly in place. Fortunately, my tool collection included a 'tune-up' screwdriver with a flexible shaft. A few turns later and I felt victorious. |
