'95 SL500 SRS Problem
Hey Anyone have any ideas on this? Shortly after replacing my steering wheel, my SRS dash light started coming on. Took the car to my Benz mechanic who has the proper computer interface for this pre-OBDII car and he says my car SRS computer wont talk to his computer. We replaced the SRS sensor with another used one but here is the issue: When the car is started, the SRS light comes on but won't go out until you drive about 1/4 mile or so.
1) Anyone have an idea why the computers won't talk to each other? 2) Why does the light come on but require a 1/4 mile of driving for it to go out and stay out. Before I messed with the steering wheel replacement , everything worked fine. Thyanks, Steve |

Low voltage from an old battery will cause this, it has enough power to turn the engine but the power drain reduces the voltage to below 12 volts and untill your alternator brings it back up, say after a 1/4 mile of driving then it goes off. My two cents

SRS Issues with '95 SL500
I've thought about the battery issue. I've had this car about three years+ and its the same battery. I don't know when the battery may have been changed by the previous owner. Recently, I did charge the battery completely and started the car and it was the same result. Idling time and or driving distance will cause the light to eventually turn-off. I will likely replace the battery before it gets too cold here in Cleveland (berg) and let you know if it makes a difference if its new.
Anyone have an idea WHY the MBZ computer can't "talk" with my SRS computer to detect any fault? The MBZ mechanic says MY system won't communicate. I don't know what else to do. Steve |
