Soft top lever adjustment advice

I have always had trouble removing my hard top, now I am also having trouble stowing my soft top. After checking lever function I can see that the big lever works OK, with quite a bit of up-down action. The small lever, however, only moves the hook back a tiny bit at the very end of its motion and I would like to adjust it.
I assume you do that by pulling the wire through the lever hole, is that right?
If so, how much?

yes , and just tighten to take out slack and keep lever hook still parallel to the top hook, too much and it will not latch correctly. Also make sure the hook on the top is not bent and is oriented properly
