what year for OBD2

Could someone please answer a 'date' question -
from what model year of R129 is OBD2 relevant ?
I have a '95 SL500 and have been offered an OBD2 code reader / data logger, but I'm not sure if the two are compatable !
Any help or advice would be most useful. Thanks.
